DIY: Applying insulation to my Landy

bringing this up: I have been doing some research and I think the following plan is the best one: I would prep the panels by sand blasting them, then apply UPOL #8 Acid primer, then UPOL gravitex and then applying the Kaiflex on it (the Kaiflex would then be covered with metal sheets)...

Hi @discomania, My expedition to find epoxy paint led to some success (TDS attached): BASF MasterEmaco® 8100 AP: Single component epoxy based zinc rich primer for steel Berger ZINCANODE 600: A two pack epoxy zinc rich primer. Else I am going back to Europe on vacation next week and I can buy...

Gravitex on footwells, battery box, etc

@ash what do you mean by: you could even etch, then prime then stonechip. I thought that etch-primer was one product - how can you etch and then prime?

Gravitex on footwells, battery box, etc

great stuff, I will give it a try then :) @Ash2304 How should i treat the bulkhead and the footwells before applying the Gravitex? After cleaning with a degreaser just a clear-up of the old paint with sand-paper at GRIT100 would be sufficient so that the Gravitex would attach well onto the...

Prep to fit new fuel tank

Great, got myself the washprimer at Sikkens - wanted to take the 2k paint but the guy at the counter said that it won't flex with the chassis creating cracks in the paint that will allow corrosion - @discomania is that the case, and if so should i settle for a normal 1k epoxy paint? i can sort...

DIY: Applying insulation to my Landy

Hi All, I am looking at applying a good insulating material for Wheely (1995 Land Rover Defender 6x4) so that in my trips around Ghana and Africa I won't suffer too much from the engine heat nor the very loud engine noise I bought 20mm Kaiflex...

Gravitex on footwells, battery box, etc

Heya, reading online I came across James' website, and as part of his rebuild he states: 'I coated the footwells with Ixell stone chip, this helps cut down on panel noise and adds long term protection to the steel. It can be over painted'...

Prep to fit new fuel tank

Great @discomania I went again to Sikkens and it turns out that they have the following two primers (attached more details): 1) Washprimer: A one component chrome-free, self-etching washprimer that offers excellent corrosion resistance without the use of metal preps and conditioners...

    Increasing security on my Landy

Alright - I understand set-up is a sensitive topic - I will figure out where to put them with the support of someone offline. So rather than set-up suggestions, what products do you recommend for Defender security, I'd be keen to hear your views on 1) Pedal locks 2) transmission locks 3)...

Prep to fit new fuel tank

Hi @discomania another exciting day fishing out what I need - i finally found the sandpaper of the right GRIT so that's on its own it's an achievement. With respect to the primer is not as easy :) I found some but no one is an Etch-primer as you reccomend.... Either this one from Coo-Var...

Gravitex on footwells, battery box, etc

Great you guys always save me from messing up things! :) I thought that putting gravitex on the side of the floor facing the road would be a good idea, if you think it's not I will find another way of using my spare gravitex :D

Gravitex on footwells, battery box, etc

Hi guys, Got to some Gravitex left and would like to cover the front and back floor of my Landy to reduce the noise when going off-road and having stones hitting the panels and rattling through. I was thinking to remove the panels, bring them to the paint shop, and have them sprayed with...

Prep to fit new fuel tank

Thanks, I can't find UPOL Acid #8 here but anyway you reccomend to use a Etch Primer rather than the wash primer - is my understanding correct? What Gr size of sand paper would you use to take away the original paint from the fuel tank? I am looking forward to starting with this job :)

Prep to fit new fuel tank

sure, plenty of pics - I will document every step along the way, so this shall be useful for whoever comes next :) So to close off the bit on the prime, since I will sand-paper until most of the original black paint is gone (which Gr sand paper you recommend) is best if I find a proper Etch...

    Increasing security on my Landy

ok, in all of this, I am actually seeking to understand where is to best place it as it'd be best secure - so whoever looks at this will notice that the place suggested is 'better' and hence won't even try to get close to it:) any recommendations on that then? :D

    Increasing security on my Landy

Hi All, I want to increase the security of my doors to make it tougher to get in. I am also working on a solution for the windows/glass but I will keep this separate. For this I have been roaming for potential solutions and the one that I think is best is to put YALE P400S at the doors - this...

Prep to fit new fuel tank

@discomania you are fantastic! Thanks a lot! All clear and understood. I will leave out the underbody seal then - what's the purpose of this material normally? I am not clear what you mean by 'for total belts and braces you could then paint the underseal onto the bottom of the tank to give it...
