For a light to come on and go off again on its own its an intermittent fault. An intermittent fault is logged as pending (within the OBDII protocol) and will only turn the light on when logged 3 journeys in a row. Likewise 3 clear journeys will turn the light back out.

Re the injector numbering, they are back to front ( for me anyway) with #1 to the right, easy thing to mix up. i always default to #1 at the pulleys

so to part answer my own post i found this in the repair manual NOTE: The TD4 engine cylinders are numbered from the rear of the engine (transmission end). Therefore, Number 1 cylinder and number 1 injector are located at the rear of the engine.

sounds like it has been re-trained not sure how to teach these, in vag all you have yo do is hold the window switch down or up for 5 seconds after it has reached its stop. you may need to remove a fuse for a while so that it forgets its current settings. does it stay at 14V when the door is then closed? does the red light on the dash work? sounds to me like it is some how getting excited < correct term, by the door lights. the dash light normally acts to excite ( jump start get 'er going) the alternator

it was a reference to working on SUs I find that 90% of SU trouble can be fixed by setting the distributor up right. Yep been there done that with the shock thing - i also work on Defibs got a shock off one of those while working on it - like getting a sledge hammer to the arm.....

you said evac pressure test the regas - im no expert ( been watching too much scotty kilmore) but I am going for airlock - need to evac air and all then fill slowly.
