Disco 2 Steering box drop arm but. Quick confirmation please

It's definitely put me off trying to faff about with it again! I'm not sure if I got the box off I'd be able to remove it. I managed to make room to get a pretty big hammer in there, with pullers tensioned very high and it didn't want to budge. Still, you wouldn't want it to come loose when you...

Disco 2 Steering box drop arm but. Quick confirmation please

Seen a couple of good "how too" guides online, so yeah, seen that they are on the heavy side! Swapping the box over doesn't look too bad a job. Although the ACE ram does seem to cover a couple of the bolts that hold the box onto the chassis, so may be fun getting at those!

Disco 2 Steering box drop arm but. Quick confirmation please

Nope.....it ain't having it. Drop arm will not budge. After 2 days of trying, I've had enough, so will order a reconditioned box. What a pain of a job!

Disco 2 Steering box drop arm but. Quick confirmation please

This was my initial thought. Steering feels good though. If I can get a new seal in and stop the leak for another 12-18 months maybe and put off the expense of changing the box over for a bit, I'd be happy. I do feel if I can't remove the drop arm in situ though, and would have to remove the box...

Disco 2 Steering box drop arm but. Quick confirmation please

Rain stopped play today. Better tomorrow hopefully, so will have another shot at it in the afternoon, after work. Borrowed a bigger hammer!

Disco 2 Steering box drop arm but. Quick confirmation please

Maybe I should remove the box and try that. Main problem in whacking it from underneath is the access. Can't really get a good swing on the hammer. Used a breaker bar to tighten up the puller, so it was using some force. Tempted to try again today.

Disco 2 Steering box drop arm but. Quick confirmation please

Yes brian47, seen that. Some people have said they have had success doing it in situ, so wanted to try it. If I take the box off, I think I had just as well fit a refurbished one really. Thanks.

Disco 2 Steering box drop arm but. Quick confirmation please

Thanks discool. Yes, seen a lot about them. There are refurbished boxes on a well know auction site, with 2 years warranty on an exchange basis, for £169. Seems a good price. May just go down that route.

HELP what should I do ?

Mine also was in a similar condition after a good wire brush. Good coating of old engine oil and waxoyl will help prevent it from getting much worse. I coat mine every 6 months or so and fill the chassis with old oil too. Just passed and MOT with no advisories and the tester commented on how...

Disco 2 Steering box drop arm but. Quick confirmation please

Hi. Yes, wanted to replace the output shaft seals as it's leaking. Spent the day underneath it with pullers and hammers, but it's stuck fast. I knew it was likely to be a pain, but wanted to try this first before the other option of replacing the whole unit.

Disco 2 Steering box drop arm but. Quick confirmation please

Never mind. Got nut off ok, it is 40mm. The drop arm however will not budge. Looks like I'll be taking the box off, and if I'm doing that I just as well swap it for a reconditioned one.

Disco 2 Steering box drop arm but. Quick confirmation please

Disco 2 TD5 2001. Need to remove the drop arm from the steering box. Don't have a socket big enough to fit the big nut that holds it to the output shaft, so I need to buy one. Can anyone confirm the nut size is 40mm please? Many thanks.

Disco 2 A little help please regarding window motor removal

Just a quick update. Managed to repair both mechanisms on the window and rear wiper. Motors were fine, mechanisms just needed cleaning and greasing and they were both working fine once more. Cost £0. Result.

Thank you discool! That's good to know.

Disco 2 A little help please regarding window motor removal

Hi All. My drivers side electric window has decided to stop working, along with my rear wiper. Both motors have power, and you can hear them click as you press the switches, but they don't run. Both were working completely fine earlier this week. I intend on replacing both motors, but have an...

    ACE problems

Did I read somewhere it will bleed itself if you keep rocking it side to side with the engine running?

    Disco 2 Air Suspension

There should be 2 pipes connected. Mine had snapped off. Managed to repair it with some strong glue. My suspension was also working fine with it disconnected.

Disco 2 Extending breathers...quick question please.

Thanks for that. Managed to get it sorted. The gearbox breather had dropped down behind the engine block. All breathers extended up behind plastic cover on the windscreen pillars. Snorkel is now air tight too!

Disco 2 Extending breathers...quick question please.

Ok. Thanks. Looking under the bonnet earlier there were only two breathers. One on the right and one on the left of the engine, on the bulkhead. Maybe I'll be able to see better once I get underneath!

Disco 2 Extending breathers...quick question please.

I've searched, but couldn't find the answer. I'm extending the breathers on my D2 TD5 auto. Am I correct in thinking there is no breather on the auto box? So just transfer box and front and rear axles?
