    Td5 mpg

    1. Are you sure the mpg calculation is correct? Are you brimming the tank then doing at least 300 to 400mls then brimming the tank again, so that you have an accurate measure of the fuel used, as well as the distance covered? 2. If no.1 is accurate, what percentage of distance travelled is...

    Battery or earth may be?

Hi Gazza, if the second one is going to do heavy work such as winching, then the storage capacity (amp/hr) will be important. Although there are a number of peeps on here, myself included, that use Optima batteries which are only 50amp/hr but have high cca. Red top for starter functions and...

    Battery or earth may be?

As said before, Cold Cranking Amps is the ability for the battery to deliver very large amounts of current, even when very cold, for very short periods ie when starting the engine. Does this sound like a measurement appropriate to operating a winch to you?

    Battery or earth may be?

800cca as a minimum will give you reliable starting in all weathers.

    Battery or earth may be?

For a battery to be good for starting a diesel Disco it needs to have good CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) not just 75/85/90amp/hr ratings. The CCA is the crucial specification for a starting battery. Varta is a good make and is often supplied as original equipment, as on my Jag S-type.

    Td5 mpg

That sounds low but mpg depends VERY much on driving style and conditions. Is yours manual or auto? I've had both and my manual cars all did at least 10% better mpg.

Not sure which part you mean? Is this the plug on top of the thermostat housing or the one on top of the radiator?????

    Battery or earth may be?

What vehicle have you got? Model/engine/gearbox? Early Discos - TDi models - rarely suffer from inappropriate battery drain, but subsequent models TD5/TDv6 etc are known to do this. Sounds to me like your battery is just not man-enough. You need something with at least 800cca in bad weather...

    Temp gauge not rising

It's not normal at all. It indicates a problem in the cooling system. I suspect that the thermostat is staying open all the time, or has been removed. As a result your engine is being over-cooled, which is not a good thing. Drain coolant, remove old 'stat and install new one. Then re-fill...

    Suspension warning light

In my opinion your car needs to be connected to a proper diagnostic machine that will read the fault codes from all the various electronic systems - otherwise it'll be just guesswork. You NEED to see the printout from this diagnostic session so you can post the results on here. You need to find...

    Disco arches

@ Spirit - :D:D:D:D:D @ MrDuc - widening the track of the D2 will serious compromise the reliability of the vehicle. Up to you of course but do bear in mind that replacing hubs at £100 or so a time will turn into an expensive game real soon. Plus it DOES look stooooopid.
