Been offered a broken G4. Is it worth it...

It's definitely not a 'real' G4 Event car - it may be part of the LTD Edition G4 Homage cars. Based on a GS and with plastic seats and not much else. Unles you're impressed by G4 stickers I can't see it's worth buying at £2200.

    Buying a Disco 2 2.5 dti

OK mate that's cool. 1. The biggest single thing to check is the condition of the chassis, particularly the rear part of the chassis - from the rear axle to the rear bumper. What you often find is that the rectangular cross section has started to rust and there starts to deform and 'blow'. In...

    edc or not edc

Sounds like you have a modified vehicle. '97 TDi 300 auto was definitely an EDC car. It is not at all unusual for peeps to change the EDC pump for a manual one. Some pics of the injection pump should confirm it? Dave

    Buying a Disco 2 2.5 dti

Hi Zoran, just to help you with the correct terminology: Disco 1 goes from 1989 to 1998 with 4 cylinder TDi diesel engines. Disco 2 goes from 1998 to 2004 with 5 cylinder TD5 diesel engines. Can you please confirm which generation of Disco you are referring to, to get the most relevant...

    Gearbox oil argument!

Hi Jim, here's a wacky idea - ask Repsol ! Any particular reason you are focussing on this brand?

Code reader for 94 300 Tdi SRS & ABS ?

Hi Glenn, when the SRS light was showing on my Disco, I cleaned the yellow connectors under the passenger seat with Contact Cleaner, then put them back together and..........Bob's yer Uncle the light went out. Dave

    Gearbox oil argument!

The ATF advice for a D1 or D2 is just rubbish - the recommended fluid for all R380 gearbox applications is MTF94. Re the rest - tranny box and diffs EP80w-90 for D1's and EP75w-90 for D2's. There is no official recommendation I've found for moving away from that in hotter climes. Dave

If I lift the car do I need spacers

Hi Nic, the problem is that as std. the D2 (like all big 4x4's) has a relatively high centre of gravity, so if you raise it more, it seems to have a disproportionate effect on stability which I do not believe is compensated by hub spacers. You can run 265/75/16's on std. suspension - I done...

How good are Disco 4 commercials?

They are not particularly unreliable, and getting better the newer they are. The problem is that they really need pro-active maintenance (like all vehicles!!) not just following the LR schedule. Maintenance costs money, so it doesn't get done- hence reliability issues.

    Gearbox oil argument!

Well, Rave says this for a D2 : "Gearbox oil: Use of gearbox oils other than those specified may result in serious damage to the gearbox, Manual Gearbox: Use Texaco MTF 94 oil for refill and topping-up. If MTF 94 is not available, ATF Dexron IID or ATF Dexron III may be used...

    Gearbox oil argument!

Hi Jim, EVO 1 and 2 are the best transmission oils I've ever used and made a real difference to the running of my TDi 200 - it's just a bit pricey and I like to change my oils regularly, that's all.

Painting chasis and wheel arches silver.

Well, with regard to protecting the chassis from rust, it's worth bearing in mind that the chassis mostly rusts from the inside outwards. So no matter what you put on the outside it'll only protect the chassis a small amount. Sadly once the rust is into the chassis, you're fighting a losing...

    Gearbox oil argument!

    Main, manual gearbox - MTF94 - 2.5ltrs Transfer box and diffs - EP 80w-90 to GL5 spec. - 6ltrs in total.

    auto gearbox failure

+1 on changing the oil. Re tightening up the oil-pipe nut I just did it with an an adjustable, 1 face at a time (after getting it finger tight of course). Torque setting required according to Rave is 42 N/mtrs so not really very tight. Dave
