No because the engine is the same basic lump as stipulated in the regs.
Engines are not regarded as particularly important and the 1960 2 1/4 petrol is not that much different from a 1984 2.5n/a diesel.
I swapped a petrol for a diesel (2.25 petrol to 2.5n/a/diesel ) and just filled in the v5 and sent it off, no problems at all. Just tell your insurance it shouldn't make any difference at all but you must tell them cos if you claim and the fuels wrong they'll question it.
I took mine a year or 2 back to a local garage who did the test but just not through the system, I think you will find places to do that but probably not all.
You can see if its exempted if you go to DVLA website and look for mot history and vehicle check, it'll tell you either its mot'd or not , or it will say no results found in which case its probably been exempted already.
I think thats right but you may have to declare mot exemtion the first time you do it, thereafter it automatically comes up with the tax. Must say historic on the v5 though.
As an aside is the DVLA open for postal business yet?
As James said, theres ways to measure how much clearance you have between the tip of the rod and the master cylinder but the best way to tell if its ok is by feel. By that I mean if you push the pedal you will (or should) feel a small gap......its hard to explain but try it and see. If theres no...
This is what you want. Got some for mine years ago nearly the same as originals.

Yes beats me how to bend a thing like that, you'd have to be really trying.....had considered heating it up and having a go at straightening it but haven't got a vice big enough.
