So on LPG that would equate to well over 30mpg, cost wise, on the motorway if driven sensibly, I can live with that :) Probably the equivalent, on LPG, of mid 20"s towing ? Very similar to the equivalent mpg of my previous diesel powered 4x4"s but plusher :)

What is considered acceptable mileage on a P38 V8 in terms of the engine still having plenty of life left in it (assuming it has been serviced properly). Also what is the MPG like on a V8 petrol if driven sensibly, ie can you get 20mpg out of them ?

I have always liked the looks of the P38 but never owned one before mainly because I thought that if I bought a dirt cheap one purely for towing besides my daily drive car I thought it would be unreliable & expensive to repair or if I bought a nice one besides my daily drive it would be to nice...

Yes so with a budget of up to £10K & the vehicle to be used as both a daily drive (admittedly low annual mileage) & occasional towing would the suggestions still be for a P38 or something different ?

What are they like towing as primarily this is what it would be used for ? I am guessing that the big V8 petrol motors tow better than the 2.5 diesels & probably not much worse on fuel if on LPG ?

Are the 2.5 diesel P38"s a bit under powered, especially with 1.5 tonnes on the back ? I have had a 200 & 300 TDI Disco, is the 2.5 P38 the same engine as the TD5 Disco ?

Well went to see it & it was dog. Lot of rust underneath, several warning lights on the dash, several things not working & didn"t change gear smoothly or when it should :( It was described as "in very good condition" in the ad :eek:

Update. Went to see the Disco this morning ! Where do I start. The body & interior are in good nick for a 16 year old motor & it drives well. Not smokey, noisy or clunky. Hi/Lo & diff lock work. Rust wise ah now here"s the problem. Boot floor rusted away, rear cross member rusted through, both...

I have had a K reg & P reg before & both had to be srapped due to masses of rust. They both had brand new MOT"S but didn"t just fall to bits the 12 months I had them. they must have been very rusty when the MOT"s were done ! How they passed the MOT"s I do not know. They both needed boot floors...
