Anyone fitted front bumper number plate light mount bars like this...

Pretty much but moose have handles attaches to their heads to help haul them out.

Anyone fitted front bumper number plate light mount bars like this...

Here's mine. No problem fitting to a facelift. I drilled and tapped through the bumper into the bumper armature and mounted the bar with 6mm bolts. It is quite sturdy. Here in Canada there isn't much worry hitting pedestrians but you don't want to hit a moose. You take them out at the knees and...

What have you done to your Freelander today

I'm back in action (More or less) after being laid up with hand issues. First it was a "Blender cleaning injury" to my right hand and as soon as that healed I went in for scheduled surgery on my right hand. Back to work tomorrow but on light duties for a couple of weeks. It will be really nice...

It's the same here GG. Literally no rust on my 2004 Hippo. The stuff I see from the UK is alarming. How much salt do they use on their roads?!?

The Doc cauterised the finger today and gave me a tetanus shot for good measure. Fun times, but I`m still smiling as the Hippo is back together!

What have you done to your Freelander today

Today was a good day with my V6 Hippo. After changing an intake cam some lifters and the belts I completed reassembling the intake manifold etc. and started it. It fired up immediately and seems to be running better than ever. It seems I was correct when I thought the last guy had the timing one...

    Freelander 1.8 Turbo

I installed an N-Series HG in my MGF after the original gasket failed and the replacement multi-layer failed within a month. The N-Series gasket looked to be very well made and it is still performing well 4 years later.

What have you done to your Freelander today

Exactly. I watched the MGR factory belt change video on YouTube. Their technician did it on the bench and made it look like a breeze. The engine he used had probably been apart 100 times. The exhaust cam caps came off with a light tug and mine took a hammer and a long screwdriver to remove. He...

What have you done to your Freelander today

I started reassembly on my KV6 today expecting to have the timing belts on in a jiffy. No such luck. My freshly sorted out left hand bank went together as it should have , but when I started on the front timing belt it became obvious that Mr. Big Hammer had got the right hand cam timing out by...

What have you done to your Freelander today

While I am waiting for the replacement camshaft to arrive for my V6 I decided to start cleaning the parts. I have a feeling I have found out why I have a tappity noise and 4 of the tappets on my L/H head don't bounce back when depressed. Check out the amount of silicone seal that I pulled off...

Certainly wouldn't surprise me. He even ripped the brass inserts out of the timing belt housings, probably using an air ratchet on them. :(

I`m sure it must have been dropped. I`ve never seen anything like it either. I was able to buy a set of the tools on Amazon for the equivilant of 80GBP so not too bad. It looks like the previous guy used RTV sealer on the cam carrier. It`s all over the place. I wouldn`t be surprised if some got...

What have you done to your Freelander today

The guy must have given it a real whack. I`m wondering if he put the broken piece on, then did the pulley up good and tight to keep it together. There are all sorts of paint pen marks on the front cam pulleys and `Pulley shifted slightly` written on the crank pulley. I`m sure he didn`t have a...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Possibly but It would have to be machined after. Anyway I just ordered a new cam from LR Direct. The price was right and there will be no hassles and no worries about using a welded part. Now it's just a matter of cleaning parts while I wait for the bits to arrive.

Here is the cam. I wouldn`t feel bad blaming the last guy who worked on it. He left a trail of stripped fasteners and excess sealant in the engine. Not exactly `Mr. Finesse!`

What have you done to your Freelander today

I `m not sure to tell you the truth. I pulled the rear pulley off and heard something hit the floor. It turned out to be a bit of metal from next to the notch where the drive cog locates in the cam. I don`t know how I could have caused it. I wonder if the last guy that had the engine apart gave...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Over the weekend I stripped down my KV6 to get at some noisy tappets on the L/H bank. What a procedure! It certainly isn`t a simple engine. The replacement tappets, seals, gaskets etc. aren`t expensive but unfortunately I damaged the end of the intake cam getting the pulleys off and that will...

Interesting. The way it is stressed to only use specific fluids in the Jatco box you would think you are taking chances squirting aftermarket goo in your gearbox. I`ve never seen Shudder fix over here. I don`t need it but I will keep an eye out for it at the auto parts store for that day I do.
