What have you done to your Freelander today

The North American FL1s were heavily optioned. Mine is just an SE but it has the heated front screen and heated seats Mine lives in the garage s I hardly ever use the heated screen but the heated passenger seat is handy when picking p pizza! I am seriously considering ordering one of the heated...

    Freelander 1 Faulty parts

I had to replace an aftermarket tank on my V6 after a year (Cracks at the neck) This time I went with factory so i'll see how that makes out. Another part I had a problem with was the link harness for the cam sensor. Brand new factory part was no good. Funny, I guess "Made in Egypt" isn't an...

Freelander 1 Bad things about the freelander in the snow...

Many years ago in my MGB-GT I hit black ice on the highway in Manitoba and went off at 80MPH ending up in the middle of a field and had to be dragged out by a highways truck. I had to drive the 1500 miles to Vancouver with no exhaust. Burned a valve and went through many litres of oil! Best car...

    Cooling problems kv6 engine

I had an intake manifold to head gasket fail causing a coolant leak On mine it pi$$ed all over the engine compartment but it could have gone into the intake manifold. I don't see how the coolant could make it to the throttle body from there but thought I would mention it FWIW.

    Freelander 1

MyV6 isn't an HSE but I find the seats have great support. Mine has adjustable lumbar support which really makes a difference

There is nothing more expensive than a cheap Range Rover........except maybe a cheap BMW 7-series!

What have you done to your Freelander today

I agree Mike! The Hippo is a joy to drive I drive a Mercedes Sprinter service van at work and don't care for it much Not enough power, a terrible auto gearbox that makes the Jatco look wonderful and it's awful in the snow. Today I was coming up to a stop light and the brakes locked up at the...

    Other Tratters n flip flops

That makes me feel a bit better about my Hippo. I'm not big on Flip-Flops, or as we used to call them, Thongs. Not big on either type of Thong actually, too much chafing. o_O

What have you done to your Freelander today

After I passed I made sure that there wasn't quite enough room for the guy to get by for a while. His poor wife looked very embaressed. Eventually he got back into traffic and was cutting people up just to get one car further up the line. Crazy. Normally I just let these aggressive jokers go but...

What have you done to your Freelander today

I had some wa**er in a Lexus SUV cut me off n the highway in my Hippo yesterday He was in a big hurry to get somewhere and didn't notice that the highway was two lines of cars stretching as far as you could see. Traffic was still moving at a good speed though so it was best just to relax and go...

They say paranoia is healthy. ("They" obviously own Freelanders!) I feel the same way whenever I back up in the Freelander. I did the OWUT yesterday and the time was acceptable so my level of paranoia about that particular issue is down a notch or two. As for driving it to the airport, If it was...

    VCU Torque test results

Thanks Nodge. I'll file that away for future reference. Why spend 4x the price when I could spend it on other failing parts!

    VCU Torque test results

Crazy isn't it. "Pay more for less" I find it really odd that they would have maintained two part numbers for essentially the same item, but I do realise that logic doesn't always play a part in these things. How simple would it be to attach a label, "Remove damper ring for V6 installations"? I...

    VCU Torque test results

The Empirical Strikes Back. Seeing as how I am posting on this thread I figured I had better do my bit and participate. I did find that cheap Chinese wire ties aren't enough to hold the pole onto the ratchet. Added duct tape helps but still wasn't enough so I resorted to 2 hose clamps. When you...

    VCU Torque test results

The point I was trying to make was in answer to the discussion of different fluids and if they were the same as the GKN factory slime. The only way to find out is to see what they use in the plant or go through their garbage.

freelander was named a heritage vehicle in 2016. so why are parts hard to find?

Living in North America (the Canada bit) I can see the OP's point of view. Freelanders are getting to be quite thin on the ground. The dealers much prefer selling $150,000. Range Rovers and don't really want to have anything to do with cheap old cars. My local dealer only has one partsman (A...

Red Floods. Like an aircraft. See what's what! In the dark.

The red lighting isn't a bad idea. Reminds me of my Army days reading maps in the dark without ruining your night vision. Where did you mount the lights? Are they aimed at the console or just general illumination?

is there a haynes manual that deals with the kv6 2.5l v6?

I bought the factory manual and found the coverage of the North American V6 models is good. I find it easier to refer to than the Rave disc. (but then I'm an old boomer!) When I'm looking for parts online I check the Rover 75/ZT as well as the Freelander parts lists often don't have very much V6...

Freelander 1 Drivers airbag removal fuse or battery?

With all the talk about flaws in Takata airbags I'm always very careful when dealing with them, whatever the make. Better safe than having your specs become contact lenses!

Am I right to be annoyed

Take your doors and bumpers off before you go, light the dashboard on fire, and maybe tie a rusty bit of metal on hanging underneath and they will treat you like a long lost cousin. A good coat of mud for camouflage will help too.
