    VCU Torque test results

I had a thought that the unit could be chucked in a lathe and spun to help get the old fluid out by centrifigal force then the spectre of the mess that could make had me go Hmmmmm maybe not!

Freelander 1 Total Coolant Drain - What's this bit ?

I use a flexible bottle brush made for cleaning flower vases. It had a ball on the end made of absorbent cloth. Does a good job on the expansion tank.

What have you done to your Freelander today

It did have a case so a spray with an ammonia cleaner and blowing off with compressed air did the trick. The worst part was getting the offending matter out of the little speaker port on the bottom. :( My wife was laughing so hard she almost wet herself as I had done the noble..."I'll pick that...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Today I took the pooch in the Freelander to the park for a walk. Of course the first thing he did when he got out was take a poop. When I bent over to pick it up my phone fell out of my pocket and landed right in the pile of poop. That was the highlight of our walk. Just had to tell someone...

I never said it would be easy! :D

    Prototype skid plate

Now....some quick release mounting brackets wouldn't be a bad idea. :) With six bolts and six screws currently holding it in place it would be an improvement if say, four easy to access fasteners secured it.

What have you done to your Freelander today

What a load of burecratic nonsense! It is the total opposite of where I live where there is no testing at all (They even stopped emissions testing as not enough cars failed!) Of course if you cause an accident due to an unsafe vehicle your insurance is null and void, and traffic cops are still...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Entered the Freelander and the MGF in a show last weekend and got first in class for both of them. That made all of the cleaning and polishing worthwhile!

where to get camshaft oil seal set parts

I bought mine from Rimmer Brothers. If you Google them you will find their site which shows exploded diagrams of all the parts needed. They also give current prices, real part numbers and show availability. They are very efficient and are used to overseas shipping. Even if you don't order from...

Not a bad idea but how accurate are these aftermarket systems? Curious as tyre pressure is so critical, and an inaccurate system could be as bad as none at all.

    3 Amigos fixed

Thanks Gel! Seems this wasn't a wasted exercise after all. The article was in an American LR mag called "Alloy and Grit" Unfortunately they don't seem to know the Hippo exists but it is interesting reading anyway. The part is abut 50 GBP from Rimmer. The mag suggested unbolting the modulator and...

    3 Amigos fixed

I was just reading an article in a LR magazine about dealing with the 3 amigos on a Disco 2. They suggested one of the prime candidates is a sensor called the "Shuttle Valve Switch" which is located on the bottom of the ABS modulator unit itself. I have never seen a shuttle valve switch...

What have you done to your Freelander today

I'm not 100% sure the gaskets need changing. I'm still trying to do away with some of the noises coming from the engine and the gaskets were a possible source. The parts were cheap, so until I got stuck in I thought it would be a good move. Fortunately they haven't obviously failed so they can...

What have you done to your Freelander today

On the weekend I intended to change the exhaust manifold gaskets on my V6. I jacked it up and unbolted the skid plate then shortly realised the job was a bigger one than I wanted to take on. It seems that changing the front gasket involves removing the A/C compressor, which means removing the...

    Freelander 1 Freelander Smells hot...

Arrgh! Fuel filter...I have had one on hand for a year. I haven't got the nerve t take the pump assembly apart to do the job I just know that prying the plastic housing apart will lead to breaking the rotten thing meaning a big bill for a replacement assembly. Judging by the amount of fuel my V6...

What have you done to your Freelander today

I have been looking at getting one through Rick Bhullar. Apparently there are some left after the last batch was made and he can supply it complete with a harness to wire it up. The cost of shipping is about the same as the cost of the screen but we are so spread out here that group packing...
