That's what the wife said. However lying on the ground underneath even my biggest hammer wouldn't shift it. I cut a piece of 6mm thick aluminium to the width of the slot in the plug and pulled on it with a long stilson pipe wrench. That worked but the 6mm aluminium was twisted in the process...

Thanks a lot. So simple. That's that job done. Next problem is getting the drain plug of the transfer box loose. Any ideas? I've tried the obvious but it will not shift.

On closer examination it looks like someone has tried to change the 8 into 6 by using a centre punch to alter the type on the top right of the 8. Thanks James. The number is definitely 368xxxxxx although the 8 has a centre punch hole in it. Could it be from another vehicle? Thanks Stan.

I have a series 3 SWB with the engine number 36801780 I believe the original engine in 1983 was petrol and I am trying to put a date on this diesel. can anyone help please? Stanmac
