Also if you consult these guys they can increase the cubic capacity without compromising the reliability.

I would use acr in deeside ( north Wales) or Turner's.top hatting isn't as straightforward as falling off a log. Acr have a superb technique for acheiving this. Turner's also. I've had some experience of a badly done top hat job and it's a bit depressing and annoying.

Help major vibration no one can identify

Try radius arm bushes these wear quickly( don't swap to poly's). Wheel bearings I think these can be tricky to detect wear as a. There real heavy duty and b.the wheels are really heavy. Take the wheels off and check for silver paste around hubs. Spigot rings missing ( although this is not a...

L322 What to watch out for

Just to say as someone that does "every job" and " never skimps" come sale time I always feel a right pillock because all my hard work and money is wasted because the Pratt that wants to buy it couldn't care less. Caveat emptor. Especially with l322.

That'll be a Marc Adams remap then.

I would take some of that with a pinch I did not think there was a re map for the Thor engine in 2012. Why low comp Pistons. What is a secondary airway? Still what a great find must have cost a small fortune to do. £4000 +

1 find wiring diagram for your vehicle 2 disconnect ECU and crank sensor 3 find correct wire colour and plug at ECU ( obvious at sensor) 4 probe using a paper clip in the plug( or a proper probe) and at the crank sensor on ohms. 5 report back

I wouldn't swap your wiring loom unless it was badly cracked. Inside a loom wires are usually well protected. On a v8 the heat can cause issues but my guess is a v8 loom is easier to change than a diesel. Initially fix the problem.run a wire . Don't commit to finding and fitting a loom until...

    P38A P38 4.6 2000 my intermittent start

Check the Rev counter when turning on the starter. Should register(about 200). Try coolant temp sender val preferably using a nano.

    P38A Oil filter stuck

I put them back on hand tight using rubber gloves ohh err missus. They then come off by hand!

    P38A Brake pad uneven wear

Perseverance with the right tool. When sliders seize they do cause uneven wear. I've had them snap off leaving the stub in the carrier a few times. So gently Bentley with plenty of heat. I've had to drill from the back of the carrier get it red hot and punch it out. Drill a convenient size to...

Be extra careful with your rebuild as journals and rings and rods may be any size in this block. Land Rover blocks are fairly standard. This may have offset ground big ends different rods etc etc.

Rpi also provided bigger capacities on request upto 5l maybe 5.2l. how this was acheived I'm not totally sure. ( Obviously either/ or stroking or boring!) You may find it's got a bigger bang than you thought.

Is it 94 mm bore? What is the capacity ( you'd have to check the crank) as these engines can be a bit mix and match.

That is a non top hat liner block. The big chamfer aids Piston insertion and also gasflow as it unshrouds the valves. Is this good or bad for you? Are you gonna rebuild without top hats? Save you a grand but introduces some risk. I'm not sure what my approach would be. I know these blocks still...

    P38A Engine choices

I know people that have transfered thor into gems. Can be done. All anciliries need swapping though . Ie oil pump inlet manifold ECU bellhousing.( Basically swap the engine)

    rubber or cork

Cork is old school. Yours will have rubber with metal stiffeners. I found the biggest problem is tightening them. It's a 12 point socket with a narrow wall. I just hacksaw a groove across then use a screwdriver. They don't need much oomph on em.

Them are non top hat liners. Check The step between liner and block( particularly the back cylinders) I thought discos we're 4 l anyway. Clean the gunk off the Pistons and check the numbers. Also look at the crank number. Normal engines are both 94mm bore.
