Repair a radiator I found to be false economy. In the end the repair blew and caused over heat hence head skim etc. Bought a new rad from foundry 4 X 4 based in Tredegar S Wales. Cost far less than repairing head. If I recall less than £90 with brass plugs for rad and it fitted correctly.

I have had a 200 tdi, at present a 300 tdi to which I have just replaced the off side inner wing. Pretty sure the wings are identical.

Hi Thanks for the info, think I'll stick with the Disco1 300tdi. Insurance for 3 named drivers unrestricted miles less than £300. It has had a new boot, arches and sills so should outlast me, only 160k on the clock, 1996 vintage and all elecs work.

Come to think if it, what about the increases Gordon Brown put onto fuel duty, because, diesel is a pollutant. I think it was 5% over budget inrease for a good number of years. Tax man, correct name Robin the HOOD.

Thanks for the info. I was begining to think after 7 land rovers (series 1 1952 to disco tdi 1996) my last one could be consigned to the scrap heap after rebuiling the inner shell - HORRORS!

Hearing rumours that the road tax is being (stealthily) hiked to very high levels, for example a 1996 300 tdi disco could expect a rise from £235 to upwards of £600 - £700. Hoping that I am wrong.

Take the plug off the top of the thermostat housing, run engine check for bubbles. I had similar and there were bubbles, it was the head gasket, luckily mine is a 300tdi.

Pick up the carpet on the boot floor and get rid of the old insulating foam, mine had a sheet of rust attached so needed a new boot floor. You can get new insulation padding on ebay.

The mention of robotic parking/driving does nothing for me, my other car is a reborn landie in the disguise of a citron berlingo. I find the disco an easier car to park in multi also much safer in country lanes where deference is shown by most except the odd tractor. The wonder of a land rover...
