    Low compression 3rd cylinder

I would pay good money to have seen the look on your face the moment you found out what your "problem" was:p.... ....and here you were ready to pull the head off

Discovery 1 gearbox only drives in 1st

Yup, still is.... The ZF box in the discovery 1 is an all mechanical unit, no electrical solenoids to go wrong. You only have said governor to regulate the functions of the box.

Discovery 1 gearbox only drives in 1st

ATF is a detergent oil, and the new oil you put in has inadvertently loosened up crud in the box that have found their way into the mechanical governor at the back of the box. That governor is what is responsible for adjusting line pressure to change gears based on rotational speed, so by not...

    L322 manual gear box

Love a challenge like that.... Worked with a guy who loved his K-series freelander so much but was getting tired of its inherent shortcomings with the engine and drivetrain. His solution was to have us transplant the engine and transaxle from a Toyota rav4 into the freelander. We kept the ECU...

    Td5 PRESSURE IN COOLANT RESOVOIR

Just asking to be sure, with the cylinder head bolts properly torqued to spec, can the cylinder head still move because it has a plastic dowel? I had assumed that the dowels irrespective of the material they're made of, only serves to help install/locate the cylinder head and gasket in relation...

    The new defender!

That's one way to look at it too... Seriously, a lot has been said so far about how people should give the new vehicle a chance and all. The way I see it, almost all of us have an unexplainable attachment to our land rovers, so I imagine for a series or defender owner to see a completely...

    Range rover p38a 2.5 2001

+1 on that....don't see how that could have happened, but maybe somehow chain has slipped and injection timing overadvanced with resultant excessive diesel knock. I say injection pump timing because, a difference in cam to crank timing would have pistons colliding with valves and it would...

    Range rover p38a 2.5 2001

The thought about an injector stuck open did cross my mind as well, but remembered these are all-mechanical injectors fed from a unit injection pump if I remember correctly. Those don't usually cause such starting issues when stuck open, it's the piezoelectric injectors on common rail systems...

    Engine won’t rotate by hand

Old guys, I think an entirely new thread about the topic that's sidetracked this thread is in order..... whilst we wait for the OP to get back with an update.

    Engine won’t rotate by hand

So even after it became common knowledge that these engines could and were spinning their bearings leading to engine failure, why then didn't JLR own up to the problem? Talking about weight, was shocked to find out just how much they weigh in.....more than the D2 even with its ladder chassis...

    The new defender!

How many of these are still going to be around in 20, 30 or in 60 years?

    The new defender!

Inasmuch as that may be the case, they didn't have to depart so much from the iconic design like they have with this one. Other manufacturers have managed to successfully maintain the heritage of their classic vehicles in more modern iterations of same while still staying compliant with modern...

    Electrical issues with my D2

Calm down @sierrafery You're a valuable asset, and trust me, a whole bunch of us really appreciate the treasure trove of knowledge that you are, but we all dont know the innards of our discos like you do and sometimes do get sidetracked a bit in our attempts to follow your council. You may not...

200TDi first start on the ground following refurb

Well not exactly. It all has to do with injection timing. Most having had a timing belt done over the years, some are inadvertently running with a bit too much advance when they were put back together. Set up injection pump timing properly relative to piston TDC with a dial gauge, you'll find...

Stolen - L322 2007 Black RR Vogue from East Ayrshire

Only way anyone goes for a test drive of any vehicle I'm selling is with me in it....doesn't matter if it's the pope or the queen herself; yes, that's how little I trust people. With bank transfers, I believe most banks these days send out either SMS or email alerts on any activity on accounts...

More money than sense if you ask me....how does a person wake up to such a sight on their driveway every morning? It's bad enough that it's an ejoke, they just had to go make it look like something you'd find in a sex toy store:rolleyes:. .....and for 4K
