Sorry to hear you have been 'done' but am pleased to see you can offer a very clear image of said 'gentleman'. You need to try and get that story onto the local TV programme!

If someone were to link direct to the pic source so it displays automatically with his name then the "bots" from google will spot it and add it to their search results.

Well, the rozzers should pick him up from that photo.

How does the fake bank transfer work? I am currently selling a car for over £10,000 and don’t want to get done.

Looking online it doesn’t seem to explain how it can happen, only the bank transfer where you send money to a fraudster by deception.

I took a bank transfer when l sold my Clio 182 and fortunately that was OK

Give them the V5 and when draft clears they get the vehicle...here in the Algarve transfer of ownership requires photocopy of Finances number and passport or ID card...

Get them to make a bankers transfer costs £30 at mine. Its insured if it goes wrong. Also if not past the time limit in the day it can be done immediately eye believe. Yer could sit with them at the bank.

Only way anyone goes for a test drive of any vehicle I'm selling is with me in it....doesn't matter if it's the pope or the queen herself; yes, that's how little I trust people.
With bank transfers, I believe most banks these days send out either SMS or email alerts on any activity on accounts, so I wonder how anyone can successfully fake a transfer.

Anyway, hope you get your car back safe and sound.

Thank God it dosn't explain how it can be done...think about it...

Fair enough. Just don’t want to get done myself.
With a bank transfer the money appears in your account and then you release the car. I can only guess that it’s stolen money or a hacked bank account that’s used, so the bank recalls the money later.

Hi Everyone, thanks for the messages. I would go into the detail but as the investigation is live I don’t want to say too much at the moment. For those who are selling a bank transfer should be fine if the funds are legit as long as you can see its arrived in your account. I realised what was happening half way through, and with 1 of me (female), and 3 of them I opted to play along in lieu of my own safety.

As I said before give V5 keep car till draft clears by both banks then release car...buyer not happy with that then they can walk away and look elsewhare...a dealership won't release a vehicle till everything clears will they...no difference if private sale...

First of all thanks for all the support. The car has been found abandoned about 30 miles from us- don’t know any more yet haven’t seen condition etc - waiting for the police to finish their stuff.
