    a broken RR

3 weeks with all this negative publicicity and they still haven't given him what he wants? JLR must really not be bothered by what anyone thinks of them, because it appears they're enjoying strong sales and getting paid regardless

    Flat Bed Disco 2 Project

The steering shaft goes through a sleeve in the firewall that generates a knock when the plastic carrier/bearing within wears. Seated in the driver's seat, try gently levering on the steering shaft under the dash with your foot, and if there's movement/knocking, you've found your culprit.

Disco 4 (LR4) Need help please!

Somehow I knew a response like this would come up. Modern vehicles, on some, even having all the electronics go without power in the 5 to 10 minutes it takes to change out a battery requires its own set of rituals, song and dance to get it going again.

Disco 1 Help! Cam belt snapped

As said, the lack of the crank holding tool should not stop you from getting the work done. You need to take time out to properly assess the valve train for component damage before throwing in a new belt. All the best with it.

    Classic Most desirable engine conversion?

I would say your best, safest and most economical option is keeping it standard with a built rover v8 and transmission. With the proper remedial work done with top hat liners and a proper cam and lifters, they are just about as bulletproof as the best of them. Plus there are lots of proven...

    Flat Bed Disco 2 Project

My thoughts exactly. The crack was quite high up, and considering how splendid your vehicle is looking, I doubt anyone would have noticed. Love the stance looking at it from the front. Absolutely stunning work.

    Lowering Defender 90 td5 help!!

Was your lift achieved using blocks or taller springs? Once you know that, you are halfway lowering it. .......whatever you do, do not cut your springs down.

    Fititng 300TDI parts to a 200TDI?

Some of the engines were fly by wire, but all the ZF 4HP22 transmissions as were used in the 200Tdi, 300Tdi and range rover classics were fully mechanical with a kick-down cable. It was the 4HP24 that came with electronic controls starting on the P38 RR. As rightly stated, all parts with the...

    300tdi timing belt help

Yup, looks like it. As said, it was rubbing on the case but that didn't cause the failure. There have been instances where the belt was found to have been worn down to half its width and held till it was found in the nick of time.

    Discovery engine failure

It really isn't that difficult given the time and resources. As said, the engine is just hardware, and as long as you can replicate all input and output signals to and from it, you can even get the vehicle's stock ECUs to run another engine and not throw a fit. A few years back, as a side...

    Discovery engine failure

The LR3 and 4 are by no doubt quite handsome and capable vehicles worth having, especially if you take a well appointed late model LR4. So if you think of an engine as just hardware that the rest of the vehicle and it's electronics needs to know is there and running, it shouldn't necessarily be...

    Discovery engine failure

For me the 200tdi is a legend in its own right! As far as issues go, from 92 till now, the only major issue was a blown head gasket at cylinder number 4 that had it chuffing like a steam train....replaced that on a weekend and it's been golden since. Went past 300K before the odometer's...

    Discovery engine failure

https://www.thesun.co.uk/motors/17458772/furious-mum-bill-range-rover-service-engine-seized/ Safe to say in order to protect one's sanity.....and wallet, the only modern JLR vehicles one should consider getting should be on a wall poster.

    Discovery engine failure

Going by what I've read on the various forums and seen in videos over the years, those engines have been letting go all over the place - from the Russia to South Africa. And it's mostly always the same scenario where the owners are more concerned about getting the vehicle back on the road than...

    Discovery engine failure

Its not exactly a secret that those engines fail - a lot. Some are well serviced and still fail, while others go on to do big miles to the point where the vehicle's body rusts out and value depreciates nearly to zero. Have always had a land rover in the family since I was a lad; from Series...

    Need 200TDi radiator cowl

You can start from a breakers/ scrap yard for suitable sizes - look out for fans from either Ford or Mercedes. Those are known to have high CFM without being too loud. Alternatively you can check out ebay or other online retailers for suitable sized new kenlowe fans. Ideally you want something...

    Need 200TDi radiator cowl

Maybe it's time to ditch the viscous fan for an electric one. The 200Tdi hardly ever gets up to any temperature near running hot, so doesn't really need that fan anyway. With the electric fan you save a bit of energy that's lost by driving the viscous fan all the time, as connected to a thermal...

No, the boot is for the spares you need to carry around ..... the tools go in the glove box, underneath the front seats and in the door pockets. :D

    200tdi 300tdi combi engine?

I think you've basically answered your own question..... the 300Tdi was designed to be an upgrade of the 200Tdi. As such, aside the differences you've noted with the crank seal, there are significant differences in the lubrication (oil pump) design, block strengthening, ancillary drive, cylinder...
