well I can vouch for this,i have the same symptoms on my 4.6,so I did a compression check,160 to 170 psi on all cylinders,so i remove the rocker covers and the exhaust valve on no 6 is barely moving,lobe almost round....bugger!! and it was a new cam and followers less than 3 thousand miles ago...

my money is on the rad,check for cold spots.

the m8 riv-nuts I have require a hole approx. 11.5mm which I believe is the industry standard,what dia are the riv-nuts you are trying to use?

well to cut a long story very short,both coils are f+cked!both replaced a year ago(rangie only comes out to play in the winter) anyone know a good replacement which isn't sh++part or rebadged same?

ive been trying to trace a missfire on my 4.6,ive replaced maf,ignition leads,spark plugs,coils etc(cam is new)without any success,snap on reader states that it is misfiring on no1 and no8 cylinders.it also appears to get better the warmer it is.how reliable are the petrol injectors on these...

take the bulb out then its not a mot failure.

the smaller pipe(high side) should be hot,the larger pipe(low side) should be cold.

as i said above almost all of the rads i have changed were cold in the centre.they ALL looked in good nick

i have changed so many of these its unreal.the cooling capacity of the p38 is barely adequate,block a third of the rad and watch it overheat

stick your hand on the centre of the rad,pound to a penny it will be cold.do not waste your time trying to flush it,you will not succeed just replace it.ps when you refill the new rad use distilled water.

did you try it in both directions, mine seemed to run on for an eternity before it stopped. i tried a known good motor too thats how i found out about the microswitch
