I think everything can cost a fortune now. I was reading recently that someone needed a new £1000+electronic box for their XC90. It had to be bought brand new as second hand wouldn't work. Also I don't think the gearboxes are great. I was in the same boat as you at the beginning of the year so...

I bought a 2005 vogue with the ajv8. Whilst it is a lovely car to drive, quick, comfortable, good looking, everything really. It does seam to be very high maintenance, I wouldn't buy one if you don't want it to be a project to fix yourself.

I personally would save yourself a load of grief and stick another engine in there. They sell for peanut's. That crank will need grinding or replacing and you will have a load of ****e floating round your engine ready to destroy the next crank and set of bearings.

I looked in to doing my one but I think it's over £2000 for a chassis so that and the thought of doing it put me off.

As of Tuesday next week my discovery 2 will be up for sale. It's, black ,manual td5. No headlining or carpet, dickie seats and NS rear seat is also missing. The gear box whines and the synchros are worn but it does drive ok. Big crack in windscreen. Mot runs out July. New rear shocks and rear...

Nice, you're not missing much with the td5. It may do 25mpg but it's sooo gutless.

Is the handbrake still an expensive fix on the d3? I heard it was a £500 fix but I see on paddocks it's £50-£70 for a new set of gears.

I did a l200 gearbox on a concrete drive for the clutch. I don't remember it being that hard but was very very heavy so want to be confident it's on the jack securely.

2000 to 2005 will probably be £300+, I can't remember the exact figures. 2006 onwards will be £570+, again I can't remember the exact figures and if you go a lot newer it may come down but I didn't look that far. Commercial will be £250odd but insurance will be more. At least that is the case...
