    Alternator Failures

Lost mine last weekend - failure of seal between that and the vacuum pump - oil into alternator, 95A short to earth and cooked battery. The alternator didn't look too old, but think it may have been a cheap and cheerful. Car on 87K, so clearly had been replaced recently - was the shiniest...

Disco 2 What made you buy your Disco 2? And would you buy one again?

I bought another.... had an '02 plate Td5, basic spec, 5 seat. A D4 and a divorce later (guess who got the D4....) and a few months on I'm now enjoying a '53 ES Premium, sub 90k on the clock, and loving it. First time round I was a bit naive and surprised at what they took to keep rolling...

Disco 2 Post Alternator Fail: Any Checks or Tips?

Just looking for any tips / advice following an alternator fail. Seemingly the seal for the oil on the vacuum pump failed, depositing oil into the alternator, result a short to earth of 95A. This resulted in all the lights coming on on the dash (after a brief solo appearance of the...

    Another theft!

Just rely on the fact that on any given day any or all of the following will apply: Problem with immobiliser, fuel pump broken, fuel filter gummed-up, head gasket failure, xyz switch means thief can't get a gear, PAS pump failure meaning you can't turn the wheel, rear air suspension will have...

A Saga of Disco 2, rust, dealers and things.......

Everything is repairable.... it's just on cars of this age, often the only way is DIY and not putting a £ value on your own hours... if anyone one this forum truly valued the hourly rate they are spending on their respective vehicles none of us would be able to justify the cost. D2's rust...

    Is this normal

Just checked my bold statements against RAVE. The pressure relief valve on the header tank is designed to vent at 1.4bar (20 lbf.in2), not 1.5bar as I suggested. So, given there is a pressure relief designed to operate at this point, and that there is an expansion / header tank in place, I...

    Is this normal

Layman view - the td5 cooling system (at least on my 53 plate) is designed to work under a degree of pressure. The pressure ensures the water does not boil at temperatures in excess of 100 deg, thus retaining it in liquid form and happily flowing around the block and ancillaries to be cooled...

    Another theft!

Well, I try to adopt the "don't do unto others and you would not want done to you" philosophy, but sometimes having the craic is just too tempting! You know, I'd not be surprised if D2's will start to be targeted - there are a large number still out there and owners keen to keep them on the...

    Another theft!

On reflection, that was a bit thoughtless of me... having had items stolen before it's pretty upsetting.... sorry!

    Another theft!

If mine is anything to go by, I'd restrict the search to a 10 mile radius and follow the trail of oil.....
