    P38A Project P38

Ha ha, no I just mean where the coolant channels can sometimes open out the the liners and leak coolant in to the sump or cylinders.

    P38A Project P38

Yeah, I think that may well the best option at the moment, that way, if it is a hole in the block I can decide if it is a repair job or a new block with top hats.

    P38A Project P38

I have an engine lift and stand, I'm very tempted at the moment just to pull it out as a unit and have it out and easily fixable.

    P38A Project P38

Yeah, I was quite careful on the way back, I stopped as soon as possible whenever it went hot, released the pressure and topped it back up and it stayed at normal temperature for another 10 miles again. As you say, head gaskets are easier on this engine than a straight 4, no timing to worry...

    P38A Project P38

As the title says, just been to pick up the P38 I spoke about before. 4.6 V8 Gems. I paid £160 for it, it has MOT, the suspension is working perfectly, the brakes are astounding at stopping such a heavy car and the gearbox is smooth and all gears work. It is overheating like a mother trucker...

    Any opinions, please......

No, I wouldn't have and never have bought the cheapest brake part available. It's completely up to you what you buy it's your money. My experience (not a lot of it seeing as i'm only 31) is that cheap parts mean shorter life, replaced more often and in the case of your pump, higher failure rate.

    Any opinions, please......

I think you have missed my point by a country mile, I don't buy cheap parts for important applications, hence, I don't buy from Britpart (i.e in a britpart box) for important applications. Doesn't matter if Britpart are just a wholesaler, their name is on the box and their name is synonymous...

    Any opinions, please......

I never buy parts that I would call critical, from Britpart. By Critical I mean things that will stop me from starting and going, sometimes just as importantly, stopping too. I've bought the odd part from britpart but it's always felt cheaped out on. The material, metal or plastics, are never...

P38A Coming soon, 4.6 V8 HSE with a poorly ticker

Excellent, Head gaskets are a lot easier than replacing the block so that's always a good shout to look at first.

P38A Coming soon, 4.6 V8 HSE with a poorly ticker

So, I've always envied those people in land rover clubs who have picked up a rotten vehicle, down on it's luck and repaired it and breathed new life into it. I did it with the freelander and now have a turbo'ed freelander but I've been made aware of it's limitations, it's not big enough, it...

    Show us yer Freelander!

I used K seal in mine, got another year of running out of it before I replaced the engine for the turbo lump.

    Show us yer Freelander!

Thanks, the steelies are the original freelander steel wheels. They are 15s so a lot easier to get tyres for with big sidewalls, gives the impression of a lift. I got the steels professionally powder coated so they should last a while. Thanks! I live close by so it's a usual haunt for me and...

    Show us yer Freelander!

A couple of pictures of my freelander 1 (My series tratter making an appearance in the background). I bought it for 400 pounds for two freelanders, more as a hobby becuase I am lucky enough to only work 6 months a year and for use around my 10 acre small holding. it's not let me down once on...

    Freelander 1 Freelander 1 offroad

Freelander parts are a little hard to come by for off roading. I have noticed that the freelander challenge boys use Munroe shocks from the Ford Focus (Mk1 I think). There are lift kits available which sit on the top of the turret. Although the freelander is more capable than people gave credit...

Freelander 1 When to change gears

Cruising around with a diesel is ok but every few hundred miles, it's generally considered a good idea to give it a hard drive, this will bring up your cylinder temperatures and exhaust temperatures to help burn off any deposits of soot and particulates. Diesels like to be run hard (constant of...
