Where the wires went into the casing on the pump the insulation was all split and had melted together so that might be spot on. The green was the worst.

Reckon it would have caught fire if I hadn't noticed it. I've had one go wrong on my other p38 but that was a snapped conrod where the piston jammed in the bore probably as it snapped. Have to be careful when putting the new pump in just in case it wasn't the cause but something else failing...

The piston isn't making any seal but that's a minor issue as the whole insides has just disintegrated. It has that awful burnt smell where the windings have just fused. It's a mess.

Anyone recommend somewhere I might get the Hankook as they seem to be out of stock. Tayna batteries where I got the Varta from want me to box it up and send it back to them for testing, not cheap given the weight and some couriers won't even accept it. So the warranty is not worth anything in...

So this morning with my glamorous assistant did the voltage drop test on start. Before the battery was connected it read 12.57 after four days disconnected. Connected up and neither starter motor or alternator causes the little spark you get when connecting. Something else does but its tiny...

12.69 v this morning so looks like battery might be OK. Am going to reconnect it tomorrow and see how low it drops when cranking.

Battery fully charged yesterday its now been off charge on the bench for 12hrs voltage has dropped from 13.25 to 12.7 v and as its raining won't be putting it back until tomorrow so another 24hrs sitting on the bench.
