It's the input seal, i.e. the one that seals the shaft connected to the steering column. It can be done in situ but requires loads of patience (a virtue I'm not very well known to have).

Solved. A new gauge which cost half as much as the Durite unit did and it works perfectly across the range. I must say that I am very disappointed with Durite's customer service.

Have you removed the pressure plate? In such cases I usually find broken springs on the clutch plate.

Once you're at it, you may consider installing the R380 gearbox. If I am not mistaken you can use your LT77 as a donor to convert it to long stick (and have the levers in the correct positions) and sit the gearbox on the LT77 mounts thus using your existing propshafts and tunnel / floor panels...

There is really nothing to be afraid of to replace a cambelt. Land Rover tdi engines for example are totally idiot proof. Just use the right tools (which do not cost a bomb) and it's a doddle. I must admit that the first time I did one scared the daylights out of me. Just be methodical...

Rather than post a new topic, would appreciate your advice about the exact opposite. I replaced the sender unit a couple of years ago and since then, the gauge will only show 3/4 of a tank when brimmed. Should I fish it out and bend the wire a little bit?

My 300tdi has been idle for almost 4 months. I have just given it a 5 mile run and was really surprised to see sparks flying out of the exhaust! When I rev it, it resembles an angle grinder! What on earth could it be?
