Rear inner sill body mount has come adrift

I guessed they would. I'll make up some "pit props" to support them. Will the doors need to come off? I notice from the various threads covering sill replacements that they normally have the doors (and everything else it seems) removed. I'll whip the wing off to get access to the A...

    Greenlaning nr Guildford?

I think Strata Florida is more mid Wales - somewhere near here

Rear inner sill body mount has come adrift

Spent the day practising my vertical welding on thin metal (1.2-1.4). Final go at butt welding mismatched thicknesses of plate was not too bad. I've now built a rig so I can practise upside down welding, though I'm waiting for some PPE before I give that a go. :) New box section...

    Greenlaning nr Guildford?

Fair point, though I have seen fixed mounts tear gutters. I think a bumper mount, given the distance needed when greenlaning, sounds like an excellent idea... could I use that to justify a winch? ;) I'd be really interested in a Wales laning trip. None of this camping malarky though, would...

    Freelander 2WD Conversion - Insurance!

Don't assume "refer to underwriters" is a major issue. Try a few tomorrow and see what comes back. I've always declared any mods I know about cos as Spunka says, you get shafted if you don't. Flux were OK, but quite expensive, I've now gone with Lancaster.

Wot? Welding a knackered sill... wot could possibly go wrong?:flame::eek: And, it might go right :p (though probably not...)

What have you done to your Landie today.

Made it lighter... by cutting out some of the rot! :p

Rear inner sill body mount has come adrift

Spent the day cutting out rot and cleaning up everything. It is looking pretty bad to be honest. While I'm sorting out getting some box section, I thought I would practice my welding on the sill. There are two extra bits of rot either side of the B (?) pillar mount as well as the big bit at the...

Rear inner sill body mount has come adrift

I agree, does seem to be a deliberate design "feature" :( I'll take a look tomorrow - maybe cutting a small hole in the floor like they have on the front would suffice, just need to see what access is like. My sills aren't as bad as yours (yet) but the pics in your thread are useful to...

Rear inner sill body mount has come adrift

Not easily, tucked up in a most inaccessible place. Would have to be a last resort... I'll apply my two brain cells tomorrow morning before turning to the hacksaw :D

Rear inner sill body mount has come adrift

Hit a bit of a hiccup... the body mount nut is off, but the bolt is trapped in the mount. I can't remove it as it snags on some bodywork just above the mount. The front one has a hole in the floor, but the rear one seems as if it should pull free into the wheel arch. I guess the distortion from...

Did you get the prefab mounts from YRM?

Rear inner sill body mount has come adrift

Many thanks for the encouragement and tips :tea: I've had a good look around this morning, and none of the other mounts show any signs of laminating or damage. Rear mounts are completely sound. The offside sill is sound with only surface rust and the nearside sill apart from where the mount...

Rear inner sill body mount has come adrift

It will probably be there for a while I suspect! I wondered about a trolly jack under the sill with packing up to the floor pan - don't have any acrows. The sills seem to be 2mm, but I didn't think the thickness of the patch was that critical? I had thought about doing the whole sill and...

Rear inner sill body mount has come adrift

So there I was, all innocent like, poking at some rusty bits in anticipation of some minor patching and... discovered that the nearside rear inner sill body mount is hangin by a thread... So first things first, I'm assuming that gentle pootling to dump and back shouldn't present a...

    Stanage Edge.

Be a waste of time if they thought it would dissuade 4x4s. In my experience there are as many soft laners and drivers out for the view as there are mudpluggers and winch jockies. There is also a risk that a better surface will "encourage" some users to travel faster and more dangerously...

    Stanage Edge.

Why would 4x4 move on? If it makes it easier to enjoy the views and scenary of the area, I suspect that one type of 4x4 driver will be replaced by another. In fact, if the surface is too good, the bobblies will find themselves caught in traffic from every style of vehicle taking in the sights!

    Greenlaning nr Guildford?

Looks like a good package. Springer aerials are pretty tolerant of laning so either mounting point would probably do. I use a magmount for mine (Disco) so it tends to drop off before damaging anything when its struck by low branches. I've seen gutter mounts get ripped off by branches - same...
