    Disco 2 Advice before buying

I think this Is probably the best chance of getting a good MPG out of a disco (I know this isn't a discovery 2 & also apologise if this is somebody on here ;)) I can understand why you want rid of the x trail, I am guilty of having one (a t30 2.2 dci) it was the second worst car I've ever...

Rebuild Advice - What do I need?

Space (preferably inside) Time Understanding family Deep pockets Sense of humourthis is my drive circa Christmas 2017, as stated previously a 90 can take up a lot of room when it's in bits.

    Loud turbo whistle

I had a "split turbo hose" noise, took a while to track it down, turned out to be the horn wire had rubbed through one of the fins on intercooler.

    Insurance

Do td5 defenders come factory fitted with ABS or alarm/immobiliser? Just a thought as my 90 is a tdi and doesn't, it may have an effect on premiums with these systems fitted.

    New trailer, rust!!

I'm sorry but that is utter bollocks, that trailer would have gone through a caustic cleaner, a couple of rinse tanks, then into an acid (most likely inhibited hydrochloric acid) pickling tank then into a couple more water rinse tanks before being hot dipped. That looks more like a porous weld...

    Disco 2 thinking of a D2

We have an auto, nice to drive (If a bit boring, for want of a better word) good for driving in busy traffic, not so good when you're travelling on a 50mph A road stuck behind a turd in a prius saving the planet doing 45 and you are behind with your engine clattering away at nearly 3000 rpm cos...

    XYZ Switch/Diff lock complication

Ok, thank you for the response, I can get on with reassembly now. I had the green m & s lights on with flashing gear change lights and blinking lcd display on speedo, put it down to a pattern of wet conditions, as it only happened after rain or driving through some deep puddles, so took the...

    XYZ Switch/Diff lock complication

Hi sierrafery, referring to the 2 female spade connectors on the left of your picture, are they redundant on some vehicles? As i have just removed and repaired my loom, (it had rubbed on the sharp edge on top of transfer box) however there appears to be nothing to connect them to. They were not...

Disco 2 auto gearbox loom removal

Hope so, it only seems to happen during wet conditions, so logically to me it must be moisture getting into connectors or p clip on t box chafing but turned out to be rubbing on the sharp edge on top of transfer box. Fingers crossed this is the problem.

    Discovery TD5 auto starting problems.

The internal contacts on the starter erode, there is a kit available, I got mine from a company called x8r ( I think) off eBay. I had similar problems with mine, intermittent starting issues, all good now after using this repair kit A quick search on here may be helpful It's not a difficult...

    1990 90 200tdi More corrosion. ......

You would probably be best to drill the welds out, I got my spot weld bits off eBay, only a few pounds. It made for a much neater and therefore easier job to reassemble the seat box. It may be necessary to remove the seat box almost entirely to manoeuvre the old panel out and new one into...

    1990 90 200tdi More corrosion. ......

I cut the front skin off, and fixed the new panel to the front of the remaining layer, as per instructions on the website. The metal I removed was probably 1 to 1.5mm thick. The yrm replacement was substantially thicker ( maybe 3mm).the stuff I have bought from yrm is good. The seat box sides...

You may find the bottom of the door striker panel has gone too, parts are available from yrm. Easy job to do, 3 bolts on sill, 2 bolts in your picture at bottom of door striker plate.and some spot welds that will need drilling out. Instructions on yrm's website. Unfortunately I didn't take a...
