    My 88"

I shall impart a resounding 'meh'... Let's be honest, getting hijacked is likely to be the most action this thread is going to really see. For now at least. The old 88 just soldiers on, ferrying me and tools/equipment to various work. Sometime, I will have to get seriously dirty though - the...

    Chronicles of my Disco

Update for today... Did family things, then put another coat of paint on my shed floor :D Oh, the disco. Right then, the bushes are shot (now there's a surprise) so I thought I might as well make a start. It might seem a bit strange to start on them when there's 'other' things to do, but...

    How much wheel travel

I asked google and found out................. It's a secret though :p

    Front axle swap

Some of my 'procedure' from doing it before... -Give all the nuts and bolts a good soaking in plusgas/diesel/etc. -Crack everything off while it's sat on it's wheels - some nuts/bolts can come out completely. -Jack it up and support the chassis. Now, I found it easier to have an old pair of...

    My 88"

Old fashioned proper petrol used to actually turn into a hard varnish-like substance which would play havoc with things like carb jets - 'modern' stuff ime goes more like a jelly, which is different but still a bugger to deal with... As for leaving it in a tank for a while - if the vehicle...

    My 88"

How quickly and how much it 'goes off' depends on how you store it, especially so with petrol containing ethanol. If you can get rid of as much air as possible and keep it sealed in a relatively stable environment then it stays fine for months - I've had E10 in a can for 3 years and it still...

    Petrol-diesel on a historic vehicle

No problem. For what it's worth it may also be worth a phone call to DVLA to check my information is still in date ;)

    My 88"

So, my 88"... I got this back in 2004 as something knackered. I did a fair bit of work to it (most of which appears to be blocked from memory ;) ). I do remember I painted it, with a 4" roller and a 1/2" brush for the edges - using kitchen/bathroom paint - it was only intended to be a temporary...

    Hello

Cheers. I think I'll do a thread on the 88 as well, but that'll be quite sporadic...

    Petrol-diesel on a historic vehicle

Fill out the sections on your V5 with the 'new' engine number, displacement and fuel type, post it to the address printed on the form and await a new V5 with amended details. For a 'simple' engine swap (retaining the original chassis, running gear and suspension) that's all there is to it...

    Chronicles of my Disco

Maybe a few years ago I would have got more irate but I think having a couple of kids has increased my fuse somewhat :D plus, I have actually made use of the (surprisingly still serviceable) tool I gained for free! I could get annoyed about it, but what good what it do? I know the 'specified'...

    Chronicles of my Disco

Ok, so it ended up being just one brake line I needed to make. When I took the rear calipers off one of the flare bolts was stuck to the end of the pipe (of course) and the 'only' way to remove it was to cut the pipe. That looked close enough to fit... Oh look, it fits ;) As I was saying...

    Chronicles of my Disco

It's not a socket, it's a 3/8" - 1/2" square drive converter. Obviously the 'mechanic' in question only had a 3/8" drive torque wrench when he set the belt tension... I'm assuming it was left in at the last belt change - there is only one belt listed in the service record and there's no other...

    Chronicles of my Disco

.......continued it is being. Earlier in the year I bought a 'complete with all ancillaries' running 300tdi engine (and a pair of axles - I'll get to that...), at the time thinking that worst case I'd swap the engine over. As it is, I admitted to myself I don't have the facilities to swap an...

    Chronicles of my Disco

Long post alert! So then, back in 2009 I wanted an RRC, but I wanted diesel. I couldn't find anything reasonable at all that was also affordable so I thought about a Discovery instead... I'd never really been drawn to the Disco a lot of which was down to the interior (previous experience was...

    Hello

As it says, Hello! I can never think of anything to say about myself, so instead here's a picture of my 88", which is more interesting than me anyway :D She's currently my 'daily' car following a slight failure in the discovery department - if you want to know what that entailed, there's a...
