Land Rover Discovery 3.9 V8 leaking!

agree, with the other poster. have the engine steam cleaned, and that way its should be much clearer where the leak is coming from. otherwise its all guess work. i have replaced rocker cover and sump gaskets before, which did help on my engine, though it was never as bad as you describe, but...

Rear Body Mounting Bracket Bolt Removal?

i wondered the same thing too, when looking at mine last year. you do wonder if they designed it like that on purpose? surely not. yet another instance where a welder is an essential tool

No Fuel, bad relay? but pump can be made to run?

was just curious really. as electronics are not my strong point, but always trying to learn why things happens. though i find it easier to grasp when i can actually "see" the damage/ why its had it. looking online for a new relay, unless anyone has one for sale???

No Fuel, bad relay? but pump can be made to run?

good suggestion, but my soldering is "adequate" at best. so think i will seek out the recommended new item.

No Fuel, bad relay? but pump can be made to run?

Am glad you mentioned that! So one relay works with + 86 & earth 85!, but not the other way round. And the other relay is totally dead. Any idea common way they dye? Looked inside and nothing looks obviously burned out/ damaged.

No Fuel, bad relay? but pump can be made to run?

Ah ok, so the tin top relays are different to other 30a relays. Is that why they are so expensive? I searched online with the Bosch part number, and it comes up with some Bosch items in brown plastic too? Would they be the same, but just a later design (cheaper to make with tin?) I assume so if...

No Fuel, bad relay? but pump can be made to run?

Ok checked both relays, and both are seemingly dead. Checked some other relays from another car to check I am doing it right and those worked fine. So not sure how the car managed to even run at all with the second dead relay. So looks like I need two new ones.

ah sorry, if it was mentioned before. must have missed that bit. do appreciate all the help

No Fuel, bad relay? but pump can be made to run?

i did sort of try this by swapping them around. there are other relays clicking in the footwells though when i turn the key, so have not been able to isolate any clicking under the seat area. on top of listening for the fuel pump. would be easier with a helper of course! but not available. i...

No Fuel, bad relay? but pump can be made to run?

ok, thats good to know. thats what i sort of assumed, but its odd when you look online for parts when there are 100s of part numbers for what looks like the same.

No Fuel, bad relay? but pump can be made to run?

can i replace the relay with any 5 pin 30A relay or does it have to be the exact same bosch one? any idea how they differ other than the Ampere rating?

No Fuel, bad relay? but pump can be made to run?

had a result! couple of things. i went through and replaced every fuse in the fuse box. after looking again at them, most of them were, lets say old and less than perfect? i know from past experience on other cars a fuse with poor spades on it, can cause problems with higher resistance? i had...

No Fuel, bad relay? but pump can be made to run?

ok, thats interesting. the fuel pump does not run unless the connector blocked is jumped. and there does not appear to be any voltage at the fuel pump fuse i swopped the relays around, and it made no difference. i opened and cleaned the contact on them. no difference. i guess its possible both...

No Fuel, bad relay? but pump can be made to run?

guys , quick update. not much progress on this as yet. my multimeter is not auto ranging, so i think i had it on the wrong setting possibly, but anyhow, it seems the coil puts out 180v, not 18v as previously mentioned. it happens that my jag also runs with the same coil (bosch), so i put the...

No Fuel, bad relay? but pump can be made to run?

ok, i have had a look look at things today and tried lots of stuff. just trying to remember everything i have done. firstly there is no resistor on the wire between the ignition amp and coil! there is a place that looks like there used to be one, but its been soldered together, so is now hard...

No Fuel, bad relay? but pump can be made to run?

hmm, possibly, but i am going to try and get the GF to help me at some point, but she doesn't like messing with cars. had all the connectors apart and cleaned (and changed a afew of the spades for new ones for the hell of it) around the coil yesterday, and cleaned the earth strap that fits at...

    Off roading disaster

i never realise atf was quite so flammable! i have seen petrol fail on a hot manifold before, and it just vaporizes as opposed to burst into flames. quiet shocking

No Fuel, bad relay? but pump can be made to run?

thats sounds very plausible considering the symptoms. am pretty sure the injectors are not firing. i dont have anyone to help me, so cant crank and listen for the injectors simultaneously at the moment. where would i find this resistor to test? which wire is it on?

No Fuel, bad relay? but pump can be made to run?

ok, found the ign amp. the wires going to them were damaged. resoldered them nicely and was hoping that would cure it, but made no difference
