Worth checking the crank sensor too...crank sensor issues can throw up a cam sensor error!

P38 Rear Tailgate Gas Struts Removal & Refitting

This bit is quite important, holding it up with your head while you change the struts is a bit fiddly and I'm now a few cm's shorter! :D

Intake air temp sensor supplier/part No?

Just waiting for local landy dealer to locate the part number so they can tell me how much it is to replace...how many figures we guessing?

Oops, what is this that I've just broken...?

Only thing I can think of on both sides is the knock sensors. Taken from rave: Knock Sensors (KS) - up to 99MY The knock sensor produces an output voltage which is proportional to mechanical vibration caused by the engine. A sensor is located in each cylinder bank between 2/4 and 3/5 cylinders...

Intake air temp sensor supplier/part No?

Hey folks, Makin progress sorting the niggles out on the P38, crank sensor issue sorted for now (ish). I noticed on the faultmate that the intake air temp sensor is reading very low, between -5 and 0 deg C rising to something more realistic after quite a while. Have tried electrical cleaner...

    flywheel crank sensor tangs!

heya eightnavee, Thanks for reply buddy. It was only one of the tangs that had broken, fished it out of the bottom of the bellhousing! The crank sensor housing had obviously just come loose, there's a fair bit of wear on all the teeth where they'd been running across the sensor...

    flywheel crank sensor tangs!

Hi folks, Had a post in the Range Rover section about a loose crank sensor housing on my 4.6 GEMS. Thought I'd follow it up on here as it's a bit more V8 specific. Basically the crank sensor has snapped two of the inner tangs on my flywheel, was just wondering how badly this would be affecting...

    Loose crankshaft sensor housing

Came back to the Range after a few days off...so the easy fix didn't work, engines still all over the place. Bought a second hand sensor and a new one thinkin I'd risk chewing the second hand one up first. Looks like the sensor housing is slightly out of alignment as the tangs are still shaving...

    Loose crankshaft sensor housing

Cheers for the input Rasheed, have already changed the cam sensor though so hopefully that's cool. Here's a pic of the sensor housing, can't seem to get it any further out...was just hoping someone could confirm it looks like it's in the right place or even better have a similar pic for me to...

    Loose crankshaft sensor housing

Was thinking along the same lines, seems a hell of a lot of effort dropping the trans/engine to secure the housing. Only thing I'm not sure about is how far out the sensor housing should be, pulled it back as far as it seems to want to go...will try n post some pics up later.

    Loose crankshaft sensor housing

So I whipped the sensor out...and I'm guessing it's not supposed to look like this: It's a bad day for sensors, just had to replace a lambda as well. I've heard people mention the spacers, just assumed they were small with people saying make sure you collect them...

P38 engine problems and I don't know where to turn

Like Saint says, pretty shocking stuff so you should definately be very pi**sed off with the work. Here's a few pics to help you make sense of it anyway: Mines a bit rough around the edges, but hopefully some help!

    Loose crankshaft sensor housing

Great info, really appreciate it Eightinavee Would say the spot welds have definately broken as it does slide back and forth...Will the circular plate just pull out with the sensor attached?

    Loose crankshaft sensor housing

Cheers for the reply Saint. Am getting intermittent camshaft sensor faults, have replaced it but have read that a dodgy crank sensor can give the same error too. I'm guessing I'll have to whip it off and check if someones removed the sensors and it's just worked it's way loose...there will...

P38 engine problems and I don't know where to turn

The fuel pressure regulator (under the throttle cable assembly by the coil pack connector not the other device on the drivers side) should have a vaccuum line running into the plenum chamber. I was thinkin your man might have broke the lugs getting the plenum on or off? There are two hose...
