    Hello from Cornwall

I should pick up my Discovery in the next week or so. I know a little more about it now. It is a 1997 so 300Tdi I am guessing. It has a winch bumper and working winch fitted. Is this going to pose a problem when it comes to insurance? I also need to get insurance for the day just to get it back...

Disco 1 Sliding or opening rear side windows?

Hi All We have three dogs who are going to be in the back of the Discovery from time to time and it would be nice if they could stick their heads out of a window. Have you ever seen a kit for opening side rear windows for a Discovery? Paul

    Advice about buying discovery

I would try to find out what the most popular 4X4 is in Portugal and then buy one of them especially if you and no mechanically minded. I have just come back from an expedition in Spain and apart from other foreigners on 4X4 trips we didn't see that many landys. However we saw 1000s of...

    Disco 1 Discovery 1 Books

Hi All I am getting my Discovery 1 in the next couple of weeks and I am very excited however I don't really know an awful lot about these vehicles and I am looking to learn as much as possible. This is why I joined this forum but I would also like to get some D1 specific workshop manuals to help...

What should I be doing straight away

Thanks Flossie Welding is not a problem. I can do this myself and all the panels are available or easy to fabricate so I am not too worried about the welding. In fact I would rather have to do welding myself and know it is done right than have a vehicle that appears to be sound but was bodged by...

What should I be doing straight away

Thanks Guys. I am pretty sure the chassis is OK. I know the garage that did the clutch and they were also asked to do the welding but the owner died before he could get that done. The guy at the garage (also a friend) said it is mainly the sills which will need completely replacing on both sides...

What should I be doing straight away

Hi All I am getting a Discovery 1 in the next couple of weeks and apart from welding what jobs should I be planning on doing sooner rather than later? I will give it a service with new engine oil, filters etc Would it be prudent to change the gear oil and that of the diffs etc? I can't ask the...

    Hello from Cornwall

Thank you for the welcome. If I am honest I don't really know. I do know the sills are almost non existent but I have no idea about the boot floor or the inner arches etc but I am not paying very much for it and I can cope with welding most things so I am not that worried. To be honest I would...

    Wot no Kernow?

Thanks Jake Oh I will be putting lots of pictures up don't you worry. If I remember correctly he said it would need quite a bit of work to get it through it's next MOT so expect lots of pictures of rust and grinding/welding Paul

    Wot no Kernow?

Not too sure at the moment. It belonged to a friend of mine who sadly passed away a few weeks ago. I will know more soon when I get the documents and find out if it has an MOT etc Paul

    Hello from Cornwall

Hi All I joined this forum many years ago because we were going to buy a Land Rover to tow our Airstream but things went another way and and we got another vehicle. Well that vehicle died and was not worth saving and now (or very soon) we have a Discover 1 I don't know very much about the...
