I have exactly the same issue. I needed centre diff locked while I temporarily removed the front propshaft. I had to get under the vehicle and manually move the selector. Coincidentally my transfer box is a newly reconditioned unit from Ashcroft but I am sure the problem is in my selector...

Replaced P-gasket and fitted new water pump. Replaced gearbox oil with MTF94 (massive difference in the gear changes) and fitted new from prop shaft.

Nice easy job today. Engine oil and filter and rocker cover gasket.

To be honest, it's hardly noticeable. The eye tends to be drawn to the huge dent in the wing ;). I'd just fit them as they are.

Hi, I recently renewed a universal joint on the front prop shaft of my 1997 110 300tdi. From memory the UJ was 75mm and cap size 27mm. The TD5s had a double cardan on the prop to reduce vibration. I suspect the extra 20mm from cap to cap is to accommodate the extra diameter of the double cardan.

I did have someone do it. It was booked in for a glav chassis swap but a few weeks before it suffered catastrophic transmission failure :mad: and needed recon g/box and t/box. Recon PAS box and new brake calipers, disks & pads, new pipes all round and vacuum pump. There was also welding needed...

Oh. That was an eye opener. Although serious, it does seem a small proportion of vehiles. The only exact figure I could find was 1.3% for S. Africa. Still it's made me think. Does this make the Tdv6 a no go area?

Hi all, I've got my eye on a 2010 Disco4 SX 3.0 Tdv6. It has 99000 miles auto box, FSH. Body and interior in very good condition, never failed an MOT. £10500. I've always had defenders and never owned a Disco. Are there any problems with this model/year that I should be aware of? Thank you.

Just used one. They are quite thick. No leaks so far!

When I took the old one off the cap was still on but there were traces of oil where it had been weeping from the same place yours is leaking. I don't know the internal workings so can't say what the problem was but I bet it's not uncommon.

I just replaced mine last weekend. £80 from Bearmach. Simple enough job but fiddly.

So far I've adjusted and greased the gearbox selector mechanism :cool:. It was starting to get stiff but now it's nice and slick (for an r380 that is). Next is to replace the drop arm ball joint and fit the new vacuum pump. Fingers crossed :)
