    It's a 2003 1.8 petrol, I managed to pick it up very cheap, and although the engine has been maintained unfortunately the previous owner left me with quite a few problems to solve!

    Cool, will defo get this sorted....at the moment with no tc, it gets stuck at the sight of damp gras! Then onto replacing vcu and props :-)

    Thanks so much for the help mate, will have a look after work tomorrow. I'm guessing if it is a cheap aftermarket replacement job, then the only way to rectify is to buy shafts with the rings? Nice to find someone on here who didn't rip the **** at the mention of buying a freelander!

    Ives Looks like I might be removing driveshaft to check it out this weekend! Is or should the ring be on both shafts or just drivers side? Got so many little problems with this car....just kinda fallen in love with it already!

    To be fair Doc I paid £350 for it, its a 2003 with 8 months mot, fairly tidy condition apart from a few gremlins mechanically, so its not all bad surely....

    Funny you say that....one of the thigs that led me to this forum was discovering that it is currently in mondo mode, with all the bits in the boot....and is something i want to put right! Apparently previous owner claimed he removed them for better handling and MPG....to say he was a dubious...
