Hello chums, in an attempt to locate the source of a rattling gearstick I’ve discovered that this little screw on the side of the turret connecting to the lever is loose and won’t screw in tight.

Am I right in thinking this is the lever locating screw and that it should be screwed in tight to hold against the slot in the ball at the base of the lever?

My one appears to be somewhat bastardised….

I think this is what I need https://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/507447-locating-screw-for-gear-lever.html

Ok I get it. Think mine is a homemade version which has never fitted right. My one is so loose it’ll come out on its own.

When installing the new one, would it be wise to loctite the threads?

Hmmmm…..

The idea is the grub screw in the center is turned in until touching and then turned back a tad so as stick is free to move. While holding grub still with screwdriver lock nut is done up. Yes to loctite.

Ok that makes sense. It seems like the bit I’ve ordered from Craddocks doesn’t have a nut so I guess it goes in gets turned back like you say and loctite does the rest.

Hopefully I’m not being entirely stupid 😬

You are right I recon, different types of fittings over the series years.
Mine fell out at one time. I reshaped the end of a cap head bolt to suit and loctite in place, still there.

Thanks Steve, that makes sense! The one that’s in mine has been home made at some point in the past I was getting hung up on the absence of a nut on the replacement I’ve ordered. All clear now !

Turns out the lever and housing have been bored out by some incompetent bellend sometime in the past resulting in the lever locating notch being enlarged by movement of the wrong fitting screw. So it’s out. Am going to get a new lever and housing. Whilst it’s out am wondering if I should clean the selectors etc and replace all the grease? And anything else that might be worth doing, suggestions welcome!

Yes clean it up and just a tad of grease in the selector cups. Stick is available new, housing may be hard to find. There is a series 3 stick and housing on the flea bay. S3 stick has one bend S2 stick has two.
