Sounds like a waste of time testing it, I suspect the brushes are worn out and in any case the regulator it's incorrect for modern batteries. It's easy enough to swap the regulator, comes with new brushes, can be done with the alternator in situe but easier with the alternator off the car the first time.

Had new regulator running now a couple of weeks and voltage output excellent. However battery not good. Starts RR first thing in a morning but voltage drops from minute engine turned off. 12.0 to 12.1 within few hours. SO ordered MF31 from Battery Mega Store. It was sent out same day but never arrived . Contacted delivery company who said it had not been dispatched but BMS saying it had. Any way BMS refunded me straight away and left them to argue case with courier. Powerland showed MF31 in stock so ordered one from them. Later that day email arrived to say their computor showing in stock but they can't find it in the warehouse. Eek what is happening me says, then they have kindly up graded me to the Platinum 642X extreme at no extra cost to myself (isn't this what @Grrrrrr uses) That arrived this morning and is now on charge. When its ready my good neighbour will fit it for me. So hopefully all will be well
