Those of you with the 300tdi VNT turbo from turbo technics, how much boost are you getting? I am only getting 17 psi peak. not sure if this is normal, or if i have a leak somewhere. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Do remember boost is a measure of resistance, not flow. Breathing mods and other things can reduce boost, but increase flow and power. Have you had it on a dyno to see what it is doing? Or what other mods do you have?

Thanks for the responses. I have a boost gauge and fourby twin inlet, other than that, its pretty standard. I did not dyno it or anything. Thinking of doing a smoke test to see if i have a slight leak somewhere. no whistling though, which often is a symptom of a boost leak.

thanks, Thats what i expected to get on the boost gauge.
Are you taking the boost measurement by T-ing off the boost pipe to the fuel pump, as close as possible to the turbo. Your always going to loose some pressure due to pipe expansion and joints in the flow. I get around 1.4 bar on the boost gauge with foot to the floor booting it.

Any exhaust mods?

The inlet could have an impact too. And as jonlad said, where you record boost from can also vary what you see. I assume you are also running a bigger intercooler?

I'm no turbo expert, but I wouldn't focus too heavily on boost numbers. Although without before and after dyno numbers, you won't really know what impact the turbo is making. A dyno now would at least confirm if it offering up the expected performance.

I get about 17/18 with mine, pedal to the floor on a hill, that's not what it's all about though.
My VGT spools up quickly giving boost at lower revs and results in smoother power delivery over a larger rev range.
The car has a lot more urge and is much better towing etc than it was pre-VGT.

I have a 'T' in the FiP line to a gauge in the cab.

Surely the waste gate/boost controller setup should be the first port of call ? My brain says so

Then some fella's say they running 1.5 bar boost - holly molly that 300 tdi must fly

What are standard tdi internals and the Bosch pump pairing good for John? Assume they’ll run 1.5 bar all day? We obviously have to keep Egt etc in check.
