The wiring looms on TD5s deteriorate. The metal composition in the wires is rather stiff and brittle and the insulation can break up too. Especially where they're housed in those corrugated plastic tubes that Land Rover used to 'protect' them. So...

If you are able to remove the top hinge(either bolts on door or bulkhead which ever is easier) then get the door striker in a bit. See if the bottom goes in & the top stops in line. Then this shows you need a shim/adjustment on that hinge...
