Think my earth to engine goes via the battery box as in pic, I don’t think your proposal will have as good a connection due to paint will need to be removed from radiator and front panel where connections are and also where front panel mounts to...

I would add a second earth strap to the chassis from engine if not got one already as the engine and gearbox sits on rubber mounts

So warning light is on with ign on but engine not running? Then when you start the engine the warning light stays on? Sure the warning light wire is on the correct terminal? pic of the back of the alt might help someone pinpoint your issue.

I've it set a bit too low, as I'm planning on increasing the boost on the turbo quite a bit in the next round of upgrades. It came on last summer in traffic. I was towing a trailer with a Bridgeport onboard at the time. The fan only ran for a...

This is mine, guys at work swapped a cat engine for another used one, this hose was spare so I may have purloined it and this is where it has lived for the last 18 years. This is a 200 with the early narrow style radiator, I cannot comment on the...

Sorry for your loss. Lovely that you have something to remember him by. Restoration is a massive process, full of triumph, pain, cuts and dust. Have a look at Steve’s thread in the projects section - he’s been restoring one last few years. If...

I would do the torque in stages and if crank won’t turn at say 70Nm then got a problem, you can reuse the bolts if in good condition as they’re not designed to yield at that torque

If your journals are correct size I would not bother with plastigauge, if the crank and new bearings cleaned properly, in place, bearings oiled and caps torqued up one at a time you will see if any tight ones, if a problem then plastigauge may...

I put the btm fixed anvil on the btm diameter and then gently rock the adjustable anvil over the top diameter starting off a tad too big and tightening it a tad each time with the top knob until it drags slightly, then you know you got the two...

I agree that it is technique and practice to get the reading correct. If it won't hold tolerance on multiple readings (a different result each time) then I would say it is the user. I (used to before getting sick) use a micrometer to measure...

I can only look at that and say the “test piece” is wonky. As I said earlier an accurate adjustable spanner is what I would use. I personally don’t understand the use of a micrometer on a round journal, it is so hard to get it straight. Did you...
