I think you're right, so long as the spindle is pushing the wheel round, like on your car. Whereas, on the alternator the pulley is pushing the spindle.
Pushbike pedals are another thing.. 🤪

Anything that was working up to the point of the break down is probably still ok, except for one thing. So don't go trying to change stuff until you know it is fubar.

Sorry Stan this makes no sense to me at all. With a CW or RH thread, if the thing it holds in p!ace is turning in the 'tighter' direction how can the opposite work? Hence LH threads on NS axles..

They change to 4wd drive with that fancy thing called a transfer box.
There are many auto boxes used in 2 or 4 wd format.
