I don't know if this is any help as mine is a RRC V8 with the ECU under the driver's seat, accessible from the rear after sliding the seat fully forwards.
First pull the multi-pin plug free at the end where the lead attaches & swing the plug...
It's always the passenger side on my P38's that fail. I put it down to lack of use allowing time for the contacts to corrode. Never a problem with the drivers side but the switches for the rear windows also play up from time to time.
Cheers D.
Of the four RRC's I've owned only two (inc. this one) have experienced this problem & on both occasions it's been the NSF .. you'd think the driver's door would be the most likely, given it's usage.
I always 'exercise' the windows that...
I'd say that at 121K the speedo has done well & now had it's day.
I shall be renewing the second-hand unit in my Classic this year, despite the cost :(
Exactly what mine did at bang-on 63K miles. Attempts to have it repaired failed due to lack of parts as this era of instrument falls between the old fashion 'clocks & modern digital.
You could try to source a second-hand one, depending on how...
Hi guys, my front passenger window has always worked without fault, but having been opened/closed the other day now shows no sign of working.
Don't think it's a fuse as the one controls all four motors, though it could be a the switch I suppose...
Short runs with their associated cold starts are a killer. I once had a 3.5 efi auto that returned 7mpg (brim-to-brim check) because I had no choice but to use the car for a week of 5 mile single journeys in the middle of winter.
FWIW there's a couple of things that might be worth checking. Are you sure the dizzy pick up is working, is the air gap correct? If the pick up isn't working, the ignition amplifier won't switch. Setting the air gap for the reluctor is easy as is...
I considered one of these beasts, despite the high asking prices, right up to getting the chance to climb into the saddle of a RHD version .. I'm only 5'10'' but I found the driving position very cramped.
Good luck with the sale.
I have a 3.5 EFI & employed a remote amp from PS that failed after a month. Not impressed by the company's insistence in replacing the item rather than agreeing to a refund. I did some research & purchased a Lucas (yes I know ..) which exhibited...
Decades ago I would have said 'why not' but linking in to today's complex vehicle electronics could see your instrument panel light up like a Christmas tree
But then I'm not a sparky, so waiting for informed advice would be a good idea.
I think bringing in an MOT or safety check for historic is a great idea.
Being over 40 years old doesn't remove the need to keep the vehicle road worthy, something you confirm each year by signing the tax form, and yet so many old Land Rovers...
Humbug to you sir.. humbug.
But you know what they are like for grabbing as much money as possible, specialy anything that they will class as polluting.
Personally, saving a vehicle from being crushed and keeping it running, has to be the best...
The Wilks Bros had the pre production run chassis galvanised. Rover dropped it on cost grounds and the thought that the "Land Rover" would only be a gap filler until other post war car design's came along.
The Prototype Land rover was based on...
I've used their engine oil in my late 'nineties 5 series BMW for the past few years, the product meets all BM's specs. & is competitive on price.
Just ordered it again for a forthcoming service.
I agree with most, but not all, the comments already made about Series LR of which I have owned 5 over the decades.
By far their worst fault is that 90-odd percent of them are rot-boxes.
The Wilks Bros. may well have copied the American Jeep...
Just out of interest my original cap is blue in colour, marked 'made in UK' & appears/feels more solid than the new black replacements. The ring of contacts are shielded ie only the inside of each one is visible whereas the new ones are totally...
Tricky one, the 3.9 ltr. RV8 was produced from late '89 & used in a wide range of vehicles, not just LR products, so knowing it's origin would be a help. As it's fitted into a Series LR it's safe to assume it's running carbs. rather than the EFI...
Glad you sorted the problem.
In leaving the discussion the only advice I can offer is that despite the RV8's antique design it doesn't perform well (or sometimes at all) with cheap ignition components. I have personal experience of the poor...
Strange how people's experience varies, even those owning the same make/type of engines.
I've used Champions in a variety of cars, not just 4x4's, for decades & can't remember ever having a problem though admittedly the recommended replacement...
My V8 RRC will be 40 years old in 2027, but because it was built in June it won't be until April '28 that I can apply for Historic status :(
So £360 (+ 5% as I pay by monthly DD) on renewal this year.
Thanks romanrob. Sadly the grill wasn't off, although it will be next time I need to adjust it. I did get there in the end with a long screwdriver and prodding various catches until it released. Got there in the end. Thanks for the input. 👍

That explains why Gen Z drivers look puzzled when I tell them my 'daily' BM is 27 years old, their technology oriented brains can't grasp the concept o_O
