Got message from my mechanic, the rebuild carbs arrived today at said Land Rover specialist garage. Bunch of problems solved, it seems! No idea regarding the price of this adventure so!

Checked my NS mirror. Bit odd. The glass had just detached itself. Plastic strap and even the plastic mount that typically explodes as soon as you look at it fine. Reassembled and it is fine. Bit of a result!

Just had a call with my TÜV engineer, and he had good news! The tubular exhaust will simply be declared as a replacement part, no further inspection or so needed. 🤩 If I really get the Weber four barrel carb, he would need a dyno run to change...

Well, there are maybe more issues with all of that. Hell, not that I was into perfomance tuning to begin with, even the exhaust is so far standard, just in stainless steel. Anyways, since the exhaust manifolds are shot, well, the right one is, I...

Man, am I happy mine has none of those pesky electronics! 😉 Anyway, just bolted down the upper dash and instrument carrier before rain drove me in. The connector for the instruments is actually poka-yoke, fool proof, as in it can only be plugged...

Solved a mistery, the rev counter. The red wire is 12 V plus, the grey-red one is lighting the green one goes to the coil plus and the brown one is the negative. All I had to do was to remove it from its housing... So rev green goes to the coil...

Tackled the dashboard today. It is in, but not yet bolted down. Instrument carrier is in, but not fully connected, I need to figure out which way the big connector goes in, easy, all I have to do is match wire colors to indicators, e.g. indicator...

Truetrac in the back, no limited slip ones for 10 spline front axles, unfortunately. According to Ashcroft, pegging also helps to mitigate shock loads. And those pegged diff housing from Ashcroft are new ones. Maybe I get myself a ARB locker for...

There is already more hole than wallet! 10 spline is ok, a front locker is not realy necessary anyway. And for once, I agree with that sentiment! 😉
  • hef19898
Rock and a hard place or big hole in the wallet choice then. J
  • hef19898
My bad... Same problem so, not for 10 spline... Quite limited choice for 10 spline axles.
  • hef19898
I'd agree with the handbrake stopping any movement 👍 Mine do have a bit of slack after 269k but I'm not surprised 😛
  • hef19898
4 pin only goes with 23 spline axles, I still have 10 spline ones. Switching over is not cheap. I did think about getting an ARB locker for the front diff, so far that is out of the budget. Plus, those need a compressor. A pitty the front true...

    Cuddle delivered, multiple times! 🤩
  • hef19898
No, didn't solve that. Decided that this wholeix-matching is just a pain, and will result in a bunch of missing parts and parts I cannot use. Considered a pegged housing, new pinion and crown wheel, parts and a rebuild kit for bearings and such...

So, spent my lunch break while working from home to check something under the car. Pulled myself out grabbing the front propshaft. Managed to turn it by hand appr. 20 degrees. The rear one is tack solid. Means the front diff is shot, but not...

It's amazing how it's actually going.. I did get a bit scared but only through the need of protecting myself but you know what.. This is something we both want😊

Not today, but over the weekend really. 635mi round trip to Ard Rock MTB festival - didn’t set a foot out of place the entire drive. Set off Thursday after collecting a mate, and came back today. Even got complimented by one of the stewards when...

Moved one back a bit on the drive to allow easier access to garage !! Yesterday, was in a 2024 Audi A6 rental car my son got from the insurance after his Jag was hit in the rear. Interesting bit was we were on the M4 heading to Bracknell...

Good news, the cat is back! She limps, but is otherwise fine. She sits in drive way bow, guarding the entrance. If I counted correctly, it is life 3 that is gone. Maybe even number four. She sure lives dangerously!😅🥰 In other news, I found out...

Removed the cover off the top of the injection pump and the boost diaphragm is immaculate with no holes or splits whatsoever. It did have oil on top however but I suspect this is from years ago when my head gasket failed and the engine ran away...

Quick googling told me that the white one goes to the top connector, linking the starter mortor to the coil. Makes sense, given the wire color. Apparently not necessary, I'll still fit a new female connector to wire everything up properly. As...

Done for today. The black and purple wire is for a, according to the workshop manual, optional hand brake indicator. So I left that one unconnected. The starter motor wiring and the speedo cable were a hell of a job so. Mostly done after all...

Done for today, weather and bad connectors won. To be continued next week for the alternator and after vacation for everything else. I need a bullet crimping tool, and that sounds like a nice souvenir from Scotland! Just some questions regarding...

So, no quick fixes. Couple of reasons: some of the connectors of the head lamps and side indicators are not great, so to do it propably bullet connectors are the way to go. Then there I need to plug a new wire between the fuel pump connector on...
  • hef19898
That'll be a quick fix, I'll simply attach different connectors to the old wiring. That'll have to do for now.

À "Different years" thing again 😵😜

Lunch, and rain, break update: the main and engine harnesses are out. No idea why one would attach the engine harness using a inlet manifold bolt so. Anyway, the engine harness is more difficult than the main one, I did not expect that...

Spot the problem... And those cheap 12 connectors I have defenitely wont cut it. Guess I need a new crimp set for that...
