According to Royal Mail, the manual regulators should arrive early next week. Soon enough. And somehow I am done with electrics once the wire are in! 😁
  • hef19898
Damn, forgot one thing. The electric wondows are removed. So I need at least a manual one for the driver side befire I can go to pass TÜV. Ordered one of eBay, we'll see when they are delivered. Hopefully next week!

Well, the "What did you do today ..." thread is not the best place to track all the wiring stiry. So here an update and summary so far: All cables are identified and the routing as well. The rear harness is in, the main harness passes...

All the cables are now identified! Tomorrow the instllation and testing, Sunday reassembly of everything. If it works, TÜV next week!
  • hef19898
Yeah, there was a whole in the piece between the windshield and the bonnet for an antenna for the after market radio. Quite likely the water is slowly dripping down the cable, the antenna is still but will have to go as well.

Prep day to tackle the main harness tomorrow. That meant removing the front carpets, seat and cubby box. Turnes out you do NOT have to remove the heater unit, the harness passes well between the heat the bulkhead. Also, all connections to the...

My thought exactly, best to verify so!

Not sure about that but I would have to talk to a pro before I tried it. The current required to propel a 2 ton brick to 60 mph in under 10 seconds must be pretty high. Wouldn't want that earthing through my socks.

I'll give Ashcroft a call one of these days, they should know. Seems the compatibility of RRCs and Disco 1s, and between early 2-door RRCs, later RRCs and those post 1985, only goes so far. A pity the workshop manuals do not come with technical...

They didn't just send the older cars, sometimes it was the newer models often with electronic problems.

Just a quick question regarding pinion flanges. And diffs. Back the day when I bought a Truetrac for the rear axle, I also ordered a HD pinion and crown wheel set. Didn't realize that those only match the later 24 spline pinion flanges. Two...

One of the reasons I'll propably never get a RRC beyond the 1984 MY, a Disco 1 or a Defender past the early 80s is all the elcetrical stuff! I like those three fuses!
  • hef19898
Ah, thise dreaded electronics! Mechanically, new cars are as good as it gets. The electronics on the other hand... One problem there and you are screwed.
  • hef19898
Doesn't surprise me. I had a chat with the nice service rep from the JLR garage that services my wife's XE. For all major brands, VW, BMW, Peugeot, you name it, there will always be someone to be hired who knows those cars, maybe even the older...

Without proper training, no garage in their right minds will let one of their employees touch one of those.

I would say that the likelihood of self harm working on a 400 volt EV electrical system is somewhat greater than working on brakes.
  • hef19898
Come on guys, some rules around old engine oil and other car fluid recycling are good. I don't want people to dump 6 liters of engine oil into the ground. The way around the EU rule to have easy access to ligh bulps, and yes that EU rule does...
  • hef19898
Unless you are fully qualified HV electrician I wouldn't touch an EV in the first place. Not illegal so, just stupid. And EV or not, exactly much can a DIY mechanic do on a, say, 2020 Golf?
  • hef19898
I did some math too.. on my fuel bill again.. 25.1 on the dash vs 25.3 brim2brim.. i think that's about as close as you'll get with variations on when the fuel pump shuts off etc. Very happy!! And it's still tons better since i did the gearbox...

Good luck! I'm almost done doing all that on mine. Good thing, once it is done, it is good for another 10-15 years! Also worth checking the cam shaft, the original ones wear out after 70k km or so, and so slowly that you don't necessarily realize it.

Okay, many thanks for the tips, guys; duly noted. Well after about 6 hours of troubleshooting today, I finally found out what the problem was. Immediately prior to the problem becoming apparent, I'd done some checks on the engine and carbs...

Did some maths regarding parts, garage costs and the like. Normally I would never do that, so far besides the initial purchase yeaes ago everything just felw under the radar expense wise. And yes, I know how priviledged a posituon it is to just...

Good luck matey, I was single when I came to France, to my surprise I met and eventually married a wonderful French lady having sworn to never marry again. 20 happy years together.
  • hef19898
That was quick work. Hope it goes with less bother than, but as much joy as, Range Rover ownership 🤣💖

À "get me home" fix 🤔
  • hef19898
Repairs that get you from where the crank breaks to a place you can install a new one. Very usefull when travelling to those countries, nothing you would use long term.
  • hef19898
no run out checks before or after the machining and a locking bolt drilled through the crank journal and then skimmed sheer skill :( let hope the crank shaft bearing regrind is as precise. love the health and safety sandals and loose clothing...

Nope, and no EGR. Checked pick up pipe last night and that's clear, I also looked inside that tank and it's immaculate inside too. What I did find however is that when I removed the fuel filter I got a ton of diesel chucked out at me which isn't...
