New alternator installed this morning. A pig to do on a frosty morning with Raynauds Disease but better done that not as the alternative was riding the bike in sub-zeros. I've had enough of that already and so the expense just had to be shelled out. Thanks again guys, advise appreciated!:tea:

Thanks again guys. Dann, today was my 1st chance to get back to the alternator situation. There is no rubber cover, least not on my electrical connector, unless you mean the yellow concertina type seal inside the connector? Outside of the connector there is plastic sheath encasing the two wires...

Similarly if you say 'they reused them all the time' and that 'they aren't at the point or near point of yield' you must be right? They are called 'torque to yield' because? 'Yield' means? All bolts stretch, TTY or otherwise and so 'yield' is in the description/design for a reason, don't you...

Replace the oil temp sensor , it's the most likely cure and a common fail part.

Do yourself a favour and get/use new bolts. TTY (Torque To Yield) should NOT be re-used. You are torqueing the bolts to the point of yield and then fractionally beyond. Once they have reached yield point the elasticity in the bolt is lost forever! Therefore they cannot be torqued to...

Rather than scurry around looking for numbers it is easier to get underneath the Disco and feel for the spigot on top of the TB casing. If it's there you have the internals, if not you haven't! Pic 3 shows the spigot. Pic 4 shows linkage attatched. Home - DiscoveryTd5

It sounds more likely the ABS self check on start up. Put your foot on the brake at start up and you'll feel it through the pedal. Nice way of getting a new starter though! :D
