Consider heated screens and mirrors, an M57 BMW engine, and Wright off road matting. Road bias radial tyres will help.

    My Series 3

Any photos of the install? The 6 cylinder has the gearbox further back in the chassis. And it's a different bellhousing, I think. And any more details on the install... When was the engine last serviced? What fuel pump does it have? Fuel filter? I've a tweaked TDI in mine and at 60 mph towing...

Any photos of the mole grips? Would be appreciated.

    Overdrive very stiff?

Drill and tap it for a grease nipple.

What's the cylinder head mating surface like?

    Do these axles look narrow?

SWB rims I expect. Always look too small.

    Diesel fuel pipes ?

Try boiling water, not hot air.

    Windscreen Wiper switch question

Yes, you should have slow, fast and wash. I think the fat brown wire should be the 12v Live feed though. Not sure.

    Overdrive very stiff?

What's the lever pivot point like? These can be like hand brake pivots, and seize in time. Disassemble, clean, add a grease nipple and rebuild.

What's the front like? Defender? Or inset like a series? Is the gearbox mounting crossmember removable? If it is, then I'd consider putting a more modern engine in, something a BMW M57 diesel bolted to an R380 gearbox and LT230 transfer box. Badger is right. But it's a coiler it's not a...

    101 9.00-16 tyres

Well, sure. You'll find exceptions. But the old goodyears on my 101 are NLA, and have worn to less than 33". And still have bar grip left. The Toyo tyres are available, inexpensive, compared to the Michelin XCL's, and have a decent speed rating. I'll trade speed for acceleration by them being...

846mm which is 33 inches. Close enough for a modern radial tyre, that's specified for the rim width, that's available.

Camac, Portuguese, and peltas do them. There's a toyo open country that does a close 285 r 16. Then you're into the Indian 9 x 16 cross plys. Any photos of you 101?
