I removed it’d to do mine
I thought leaving the odd would make aligning the gearbox to refit very difficult with the engine still in the car
Some say it would be easier to drop the engine - this would certainly make the job easier but you need a hoist of course ......
Hi guys
All this talk of blue smoke reminds me that my Td4 also gives a bit of a puff of smoke at cold startup.
I havent tried to check the colour yet but i was wondering if there is some way of replacing the valve stem seals without taking the head off - like pressurizing the cylinder with air...
You guys are lucky to pay so little for the cyclone filter
I went to the local BMW dealer recently and found the price had increased from the 25 or so €uro i paid 5 years ago to 70 or so €uro !!!
They also told me that the old style bog-roll filter had been discontinued ...
Hi guys - this is for the French members ...............

John
Keep it - you may want to refit it for selling the Hippo some time in the future or for the MOT as Nodge said
Ebay ones are normally a bit less than 100 €uro
I did this a few years ago
it certainly isnt a 5 minute job but is very do-able by a competent diyer.
the biggest problem i had was handling the weight of the gear box - had to borrow an engine crane to get it back on !!
Had this discussion with joe a few weeks ago - at the test station i go to here in France they have a set of portable rollers that they put under the 2 non-tested wheels - therefore no ird/vcu issues to worry about
Nice back box...............did anybody try replacing the back box with a piece of straight through pipe ??
it would just need to be bent to the right shape to exit at the same place and i guess 1 hanger would be enough
would it be legal ??
