well I was more than happy today after having many little problems it was time to take my beloved car in for its MOT and NO advisories just a strait pass well pleased i always have my car washed and cleaned I think it helps, but the mot man told times they are a changing for a lot of new rules are coming in soon you have been warned.

If the new regs include needing all the original emissions equipment installed and working (eg cats and EGR) - then there will be 1,000s of Landies scrapped - probably 1/2 of all currently roadworthy Freelanders and Discoveries!

Same thing happening over here in France soon 2018 ?) - will probablly have to disconnect Synergy for the test

I will try to find out for you but I am sure they will be on site soon one includes if you have a tow bar on the back and it includes electric sockets for more than 7 pins they have to be tested oh how I wish I had a good brain they I could remember some of the things I was told but 1 I remember is emissions are changing a freelander must be no more than 3 percent .I think mine was 1.2.

It's May that things are changing, I posted a link a few days ago, it's been widely done on other forums.

FYI the trailer lighting socket is already a testable item if it is a 13-pin one.

I've already bought a EGR valve and pipe for my Disco on e-bay whilst you can still get them....

Other major changes are instant fail of LED or HID lamps conventional headlights (regardless of if the beam pattern is ok).

Plain silly items are a fail if the brake fluid is contaminated - but they're not allowed to remove the reservoir cap!

Also non OEM exhausts that are noisier than standard should now fail under a new "nuisance" category.

It'll be interesting.

I'm wondering if LED light bars will be included in the test. Maybe they need to be separately switched, instead of coming on with main beam.

My exhaust is slightly louder than the factory back box too, but it's not really noticeable.

The current MOT test covers only the statutory vehicle lighting system, so additional lights would only be a fail if they were the wrong colour. I haven't seen anything in the new draft to indicate any change to that.

a couple of more points on MOT it will be a no no for EGR blocked off and NO led lights when they were not fitted as original

As BB said but also any on the out side of vehicle but I think light bars are exempt number plates have to have proper spacing

Mine due on the 13 Feb and getting repaired after that due to the full service picked up areas that would fail the MOT. I ordered the parts from Rimmer Bros so at least the cost will be on just labour only. Just goes to shows how much certain parts cost. Brake Pipe from ABS unit to Brake cost more than buying a kit itself.

Don't get caught out guy's, remember if you take it in early and it fails it fails on that date and NOT the later date.
They're made millions from that.

Years ago, in my semi boy racer days I had a 405 Mi16. I fitted some yellow running lights to the sides of the front and rear bumpers, a bit like some Volvos had, and US spec vehicles have. One MOT guy failed them because they were non standard. It was about 1997/98. Not really relevant but I thought I'd mention it.
