Series, Blue, older the better, scrubs up well, Wedding Car?

If a leafer gets to close to a Boingy it might get the pox. Good luck with the request.

Anyone knows someone doing restoration work?

I believe Richards chassis now do a fitting service. No idea of cost/lead time.

    Anyone tried Sanderson leaf springs?

I would feel safer going with GB. See if the next few days gives a positive response.

    Anyone tried Sanderson leaf springs?

Must confess Iv'e never heard of them. You may be on to something good but I would wait to see if any feedback from the Landie Boys. GB Springs usually get the nod on here.

Series 3 BANGING AND JUDDERING AS TRY TO MOVE OFF

Have you got major oil leak from rear main seal or gearbox input shaft seal ?

Series 3 BANGING AND JUDDERING AS TRY TO MOVE OFF

When you have dropped the rear prop off check the diff input flange for excess backlash and then take a look at the hand brake on the rear of the gearbox. A lining may have come loose and caused mayhem in there. If all checks out move on the rear half shaft drive flanges then gearbox and engine...

Series 3 Upgrading to Vaccumn/servo brakes

Fitting a servo will not improve the outright stopping power of brakes. It will considerably reduce the effort required, the 11" brakes up front do improve things. Carefully set up they are very good unless submerged in water this is where the disc scores over the drum.

Series 3 2.6 6 cyl - cylinder head gasket replacement

Will you be looking at the exhaust valves ? I have a sidevalve compressor from when I did my Rover P4. To much work to skimp on the job.

Series 3 Upgrading to Vaccumn/servo brakes

Yes the butterfly/tank set up can be made to work. However finding one that the spindle to pivot hole in the inlet isn't knackered is the hard part. Before fitting my electric pump I made a new spindle and bushed the casting to eliminate air leaks (helps being a toolmaker with a lathe and mill...

Series 3 Upgrading to Vaccumn/servo brakes

Forget the dreadful butterfly effort and the tank. Fit an electric vacuum pump triggered off the brake light switch via a relay. I used a Hella U28 (badged as a Volvo part) Check out ebay I bought mine some time ago from someone in Holland who was selling them new with a relay and diagram for...

    Series 3 Suck or blow?

I doubt if 200 miles will cause valve seat recession. My P4 Rover has never had the head off in the last 40 years.

Series 3 My Series 3 restoration

Hmmm Pistons, last engine rebuild I did I was desperate for pistons to keep the job moving forward on a daily driver. I ended up with a set of Britpart pistons which where not to bad but checking the ring gaps I had anything up to 55/60 thou. This was on a plus 30 thou piston so I ended up using...

    Series 3 Sump seal leaking

Why are the three bearing rear seals prone to failure ? Well the are a bugger to fit, unlike most engines they are a split seal and are not slid on to the crank but sort of wrapped around it and sit in a groove. Couple this to TEE shaped cork or rubber side seals in the main bearing cap the...

    Series 3 Higher gearing

I tried 3.54 diffs in an 88 with a good rebuilt 2.25 diesel. It was bloody awful and lost all driveability I soon went back to 4.7s. All the above not helped by having to change down the gearbox a lot more, no nice on an old tired box. As said above you need at least a 200TDI or V8 up front.

Series 3 Ashcroft high ratio transfer box

I would not think about one if you have a 2.25 doozle up front.

    New Tyres needed but which?

I run Avon Rangemaster (known as "Strangebastards" good road tyre if you want one to last, they just do not seem to wear out. They are not really good off road or in serious snow but I have never got stuck.

    Series 3 Sump seal leaking

If it is a three bearing it is only a matter of time and luck as to how long the rear main seal lasts. Minor leaks from the rest of the sump won't bother you then. Best I have had from a rear seal is 18 months or around 15000 miles. Iv'e tried three times to cure the rear seal leak and all have...

    Series 3 S3 2.25D Smoke!

At risk of upsetting your diesel place be sure to tell them you want the pressures set at 130/135 bar. Higher than that buggers up the running. Replace or anneal the copper spill rail washers, to anneal just heat to red colour and drop in water. If you replace they are sometimes made from aluminium.

    Series 3 S3 2.25D Smoke!

Keep at it you will get there in the end. It took me years to learn how to diagnose and sort diesel running issues. Very satisfying when it all comes good.
