I am currently running Goodyear Xtra-Grip Hi-Milers 7.50 - 16C. They look great on my Series 3 but are so noisy and a bit slippy on the road in the wet. Can anyone please suggest suitable replacements that have a similar look but are a bit more up todate, safer and quieter please? I don't often go off-road and when I do it is not serious off-roading! So mainly road use.

Avon Rangemaster was fitted as standard equipment to the 90/110/Defender. I have some on mine and they're a good general-purpose tyre which lasts forever.

Just a word of caution....
The walls on a couple of those tyres don't look good!!
Ive got Goodyear wrangler on my series 3
Reasonably quiet and an excellent road tyre dry or wet

I changed my wheels for 16 7.50. The ones that come on the new defenders (bit bigger than the standard swb series). They had the Michelin road tyres on and very good too. I have just changed the front ones for Avon Rangemasters that are an all terrain and cant tell any difference in noise levels. They wuz £125 each fitted.

Rangemasters - pretty much made for your requirements. Or you may be able to get a set of take off Michelin 7.50 x 16 latitudes, they are a modern standard fitment, and good on road.

I run Rangemasters as well. Not noisy and a good all round tyre. They have a good period look as well. Your tyres will have a number I think its four or six digits. The last two numbers are the year of manufacture.

Mine were £113 fitted. I see a serial number as above in one of the photos. The last two digits look like 78! Have you had these tyres a long time? As stated the walls look badly cracked. Higher risk of a blowout. If it happened off road at an angle you could topple.

I have goodyear g90 7.50's on both my series, not really a road tyre and both trucks are noisy anyway

had rangemaster 7.50's on a 110 years ago didn't offroad in it very good tyre for on road

Looking at the pictures on my computer screen now rather than the phone, the serial number is 76. The tyre walls look really perished, you should ask your tyre fitter when you get them changed what age they are. I had BF Goodrich Trac Edge's on mine and they were same condition on the side walls manaufactured in 1996. Craddock's sell Rangemasters for £124 including VAT and carriage but my local fitter sourced them and fitted for £113, he wanted the business! Pity those tyres are old, they look really good for off road and snow etc.

I run Avon Rangemaster (known as "Strangebastards" good road tyre if you want one to last, they just do not seem to wear out.
They are not really good off road or in serious snow but I have never got stuck.

Rangemasters are reasonably good off road, but can tend to clog up in clay type mud. The owners' manual for my 90 suggests reducing tyre pressures fairly significantly for off road use. This allows the tread to flex more, both 'grabbing hold' of the ground and equally ejecting mud from the treads. But for light off-road use they're capable.

I wonder if anyone has ever actually worn out a set?
