they may have individual power supply fuses, if so try this;;; remove the passenger side fuse and set the drivers mirror to match the now non operative passenger one. turn off ignition re-fit fuse and fingers crossed
those guys are great for all your wiring/electrical needs. they may not be the cheapest but everything i have had from them is good quality and you can usually get one item rather than a box of things you dont want "in stock"
given a clean and plentiful air free fuel supply to it the VE pump is super reliable.
Bench testing will include; quantity of fuel delivered, internal pressure generated by transfer pump, amount of timing advance, amount of return fuel.
if you have a long established diesel fuel injection specialist nearby i would ask them to test injectors AND if they can supply a top hat. When I worked for Lucas we always kept them in stock. The injetros in land rover are not the easiest to get working properly during reconditioning, even...
it fits from top i cannot recall if it has a very thin copper washer beneath it but most similar style indirect engines do. I think land rover part is 524680 but you may find a lot cheaper if talk to someone has access to LDV part numbers
the seat is like a top hat with a hole in it. If it is missing smoke can result as it is effectively part of the combustion chamber. The small crinkled steel washer is a heat shield for the nozzle and injector damage can result if either the crinkle washer and or top hat is missing/damaged
ideally you should use dti to set exhaust peak when fitting chain gears. Don't forget the bushing for the fuel injection pump drive can wear badly which effectively retards pump timing relative to crank and cam. As for butterfly open it wide and check if smoke improves
