    Entry Level Winch

Got myself an old Champion C10000G-S (had it 5 or 6 years now I think) was about the price range you're looking at and it's had moderate use (some self-recoveries, other recoveries and work on the farm - pulling trees etc). I haven't given it serious and regular dunkings but it's let me down...

    Bonnet Spare wheel mount 265/75s

Jack up the vehicle, remove a tyre and put it on the bonnet ;) If it's the wrong size then I may question why you have a spare at a different size

How about putting your spare on there and getting in to have a look?

    what kit to buy?

Seconded! Had a day with an instructor given to me years back at my 18th and to say it opened my eyes would be an understatement.

I Hardly Dare Ask About .....TYRES. Be gentle

You'll have to join the queue I'm afraid. Had to run our neighbour down to the local town to pick up her goose for Christmas, never again I've had nervous passengers but she took it to a whole new level. Had a similar request when on Winter Tour in North Wales and was outside de-icing the 90...

I Hardly Dare Ask About .....TYRES. Be gentle

Well Disco what can I say :-). I may not live near Llandovery but our place hit minus 17. Even though we didn't end up going to Scotland I did over the course of the winter travel the entire width of the country. Although not this winter but last a few of us went laning through the Strata...

    110 CSW insurance problems

Utter bollocks, provided you're not driving for reward or profit and meet a couple of requirements then anyone with a full Category B license can drive certain minibuses. Driving passenger carrying vehicles (PCV) on a car driving licence : Directgov - Motoring I have been doing so for the...

I Hardly Dare Ask About .....TYRES. Be gentle

Hills in Carmarthenshire??? Only joking, I live in the same area. Last winter I only had two problems with the weather: We had to cancel a trip to Scotland (because of illnesses) which I was quite looking forward to playing in the snow and after having spent a mad 48h replacing the water pump...

There's something not right about my windows!

That is correct - almost all Defenders prior to ~2002 were registered as Light Utility 4x4. Only a few (the exception rather than the rule) were registered correctly if they were a station wagon configuration (should have been Estate). The Puma's are apparently being registered correctly whilst...

    Sarn Helen

From what I remember only part of it was open anyway so you couldn't do the whole track. It may have been seasonal but I can't remember accurately.

    generic wiring querie

If it's a generic alternator for a Series then it'd be in the region of 45A - I think that's what's fitted to my 88". If it's got a V8 or a petrol then it'll usually be a bit bigger. Me 110 has a 65A one fitted, the new RR is something like 250A cos of all the electrical gubbins required to run it.

London LEZ - The Facts about your Landy

Well to throw a spanner in the works: I've tried a number of times to get the DVLA to correctly classify my 110 CSW (original) as an ESTATE or STATION WAGON (the model states County SW but body type says LIGHT UTILITY 4x4). The latest response stated that a letter from LR is required which I...

What do people think of Keith Gott LR?

Third (or fourth) recommendation for Challenger 4x4. Just after I bought the 110 I gave it a service and asked them to give it a thorough going over. They did so at no extra charge and all I can say is they were extremely thorough. I nearly s**t myself when they pulled out the sheet of paper...

    Calling all 110 owners

Not a utility but if you fold down the backs of the seats in a CSW (300Tdi) then you can fit a single mattress in there perfectly - it's also pretty damn comfortable. The only benefit I had was that I've got a gun cabinet fitted between the wheel arches and therefore didn't need to support the...

LEZ - 110 CSW is now compliant

Interesting... I've been trying to get the V5C for my '94 110 CSW changed to Estate but need a letter from LR but the TFL website is now saying it's exempt so looks like I won't have to faff with the DVLA. Although I was quite prepared not to take the 110 into London from 2012 the family does...

Help! I'm new to Land Rovers and confused!

Hmmm I think the only time I've used the diff lock in a Defender has been when the front prop broke... Always seem to have managed to get through with cadence braking if I do begin to lose traction :o plus I find the 110 tends to have more traction than the 90 we had - probably because there's...

Exhaust fettler in Surrey / south London?

Might be worth having a chat with Challenger 4x4 as I've seen some pretty impressively modified stuff come out of there. They're also very helpful and know what they're talking about. Don't know if they do exhausts explicitly but might be able to recommend someone if they don't.

    Insurance help

If only it were the case with me a couple of weeks ago :(. Although they didn't give a sensible price I have to say that NFU were more than helpful. AF won't touch any original 110 station wagon prior to the Td5 anymore (i.e. anything with >8 seats) due to the "increased liability" of the extra...
