Considering Discovery 3 2.7 diesel what are known problems

The FL2 is generally much more reliable than the D3,and the rear diff faults are not THAT common, and can be fixed by independants for much less than main dealer prices. The steering faults again are not that common, some of the ones my customers own have had only routine servicing and are either...

    welderising near Basingstoke

Customer of mine has just had them do theirs. Not seen the car yet,but he apparently is easy to deal with and happy to ferry customers to the railway station etc... I think its more a case of finding someone willing to do it, I turned it down because I cant be arsed with all the hassle of...

    Capstan winch experts needed.

Two tips.... ALWAYS wear thick gloves when using the capstan. Make sure you have a suitable rope. Not a bad bit of kit,but bloody dangerous if you don't follow all the safety advice,LR used to do a booklet about them.

Its actually getting cheaper in terms of hardware, but the cost and difficulty of accessing manufacturers information is rising...

    Anyone for Testbook T4?

Ever had the use of a full Testbook ? not many people have, all they know is the bad press that others spread about it. Quite simply it has the capability to programme, code read, force outputs and show live data on LR.Rover and MG products from about 1989 to 2005.5. Without fuss or having files...

Yep, I'll go along with that - esp about the plugs...

    Injector seals

Hope you have not cranked the engine yet... I've seen plenty of TD5's with poor compression on cyl 1 often after injector seals have been done. Remove the injectors, disable the fuel pump and crank it for a few secs. This will eject the fuel from the combustion chamber of the first cylinder that...

whats the better engine, 3.9 v belt engine or 4.0 grms??

Both are poor compared to the 3.5 if you are looking at long term use - unless you go for stepped liners and a bigger sump/decent oil cooler.

    200Tdi FIP Timing....

And a close look at the woodruff keys/keyways in the crank, I've also had a crank pulley fall to bits on my friends RRC down near Perpignan last year, had to fly bits out to him to nail it all back together. Just bear in mind how old 200TDI's are now - good motor, but getting on in years...

    Lambda sensors

What readings do you get from the maf ? You need 22-25kg/hr at idle and 90+ at 3000rpm, engine hot,all loads off. Also are the oxygen sensor heating circuits functional ? If you use Testbook for diagnosis you should be able to see how the ecu is set,ie for open or closed loop operation.

Grumpy Rant & guidance if possible

I would add to the above comments that you shouldn't even have them anyway. They were produced to help their dealers carry out repairs, they had to pay for them.Compared to many other manufacturers guff they are very well laid out and in the main are accurate. I paid for my Original Rave CD's as...

    Lambda sensors

Its probably nothing to do with the oxygen sensors... More than likely a low reading maf keeping the injector pulse widths so narrow the ecu cant get the mixture rich enough for them to switch up rich.

Sorry, having done warranty work for several major engine companies,I can tell you quite honestly that there is a HUGE difference between what is acceptable to some and not to others.

    Turner Engineering

Turner Engineering are a thoroughly honourable company,if you talk to either Richard or Frida you will quickly realise that they know their business. The problem is that they are doing it properly, using quality parts and procedures. This cannot be done for 50p,so you need to be sure that you can...

Discovery 3 cold weather none starter

I did read all the posts, reason I say this is that with TDV6's there is only 7psi of fuel pressure from the electric in tank pump. The fuel filters are often not changed frequently enough and in low temps they simply wont pass enough fuel either for a decent start quantity. It may well be...
