I think I am right in saying the T4 textbook doesn't work without the dedicated cables, I've seen those come up for sale a few times but I don't think you can actually do anything with them.
There is a write up somewhere

Finding the cables is like searching a giant haystack for a set of hens teeth wrapping in a layer of rocking-horse poo.....and when you do find them, they can be eye watering!

wow

could buy a faultmate for the cost of those leads lol

Ever had the use of a full Testbook ? not many people have, all they know is the bad press that others spread about it. Quite simply it has the capability to programme, code read, force outputs and show live data on LR.Rover and MG products from about 1989 to 2005.5.
Without fuss or having files emailed etc.Other back engineered systems may have certain functions that Tesbook was never set up to offer, but in the main it is without equal.

Its actually getting cheaper in terms of hardware, but the cost and difficulty of accessing manufacturers information is rising...

i bought a used faultmate extreme and i have only scratched the surface as to what is can do and its a cracking piece of kit. i think it cost me about £250 including registering it to me.

The old T4 laptops i have seen for sale on ebay make claims to the amazing things you can now do to your landrover when actually you can't do anything unless you buy the cables and I am not sure if there is some sort of interface hardware required as well.

The faultmate does everything via the OBDII and although it may not do everything the T4 can do, it's does a hell of a lot including reprogramming my immobiliser link to my engine which previously could only be done by T4

On the P38, Faultmate does more than T4, maybe not so easy to use though.

If you really love your Faultmate buy it SM035 for Valentines Day...then you can really tickle your P38's fancy.....;)
