    Wires directly from battery

Should be fine, but a picture would help. Messy wiring can be tidied up nicely with spiral wrap.

    issues with alternator

Look up Lucas ACR alternators - they fitted them to a lot of vehicles.....

    issues with alternator

Easy enough to fit a bigger one - which one have you got?

    issues with alternator

Mind you, needing to rev hard sounds more like brushes than regulator. £20 for a complete overhaul kit, a fiver for a new reg. £50 a new alternator. Cheap motoring.

.........and I'm assuming the fan belt is tight enough.

    issues with alternator

Make sure both + and S wires are connected to the starter solenoid - both connect to the thick wire from the battery. Check battery live and earth connections - both ends. What voltage are you getting at the battery with the engine running? Might be worth taking the vehicle to the auto...

Rumble at rear when going round corners

You should be able to feel roughness in the wheel bearings - did you check the diff pinion bearing?

Fuel getting everywhere but wont start without help :-(

There really isn't any setup to do - just the idle mixture (2 1/2 turns out is pretty close) and the tickover revs.

Fuel getting everywhere but wont start without help :-(

Overhaul kit. You can strip them down and clean them out without the kit if you're lucky and don't stuff up the gasket, Plenty of exploded diagrams on the net. Always better to remove the carb first, clean the outside thoroughly and then strip and rebuild somewhere clean. I do this inside a cut...

    Rear Number Plate Position

Just stick some pop rivets in the holes - simples!

Old sticky oil in front tray

Get the right stuff, some switch cleaners contain a greasy lubricant as well. Use lots of kitchen towel - anything the cleaner dissolves will run everywhere!

    Grill Problems

I presume you mean the plastic bits that fit into the front panel that the screws go into? And, just to make it more fun, there's three different types used! Land Rover, eh? you gotta love 'em. Have a look in the parts book if you need the numbers, but otherwise use anything that fits.

    Bonnet gas strut

Don't try the "disconnect the bonnet stay and lean it against the windscreen" trick if the wind is blowing anything more than a light breeze - unless you've tied/bungeed the bonnet in place. Trust me on this.......

Double de clutch after new clutch plate

You're not the first one to do that! There is a Land Rover mod for remote bleeding that gets the nipple a bit more accessible but the link above looks like a good idea.....

Double de clutch after new clutch plate

Did you remove the slave cylinder and put it back on upside down? Difficult to bleed if the nipple is at the bottom.

Will brake pipes fit from another model

Flaring kits work OK but you need to do a bit of practice and take some care over the flares. The cunifer pipe bends easily and is fairly difficult to kink, the fittings are pennies from your local motor factor, worth having some in stock for that Sunday afternoon when you (or your new best...

    Free wheeling hub bust.

After I snapped one off on a rock (on a road in Cornwall, nothing heroic!) and got fed up with the oil leaks I put normal drive flanges on. Didn't notice a significant loss of economy and I soon got used to the slightly heavier feel to the steering. Well worth doing.

    Road springs

look in the book - you need to set the spring heights as you pre tension the bushes.

both top and bottom radiator hoses hot

You can't break the laws of Physics. Energy has to come from the engine to drive either the direct fan or an electric one - there's only an advantage if you can fit a thermostat somewhere to control the fan.
